Just thought Id ask advice before I take my cat the vets in the morning . My 18 month old cat has gone quiet and taken to hiding under the bed normally a very nosey cat into anything he can unsure how much he's eating as we have another cat too. He's going the toilet but I've noticed he's also cleaning down below ? Has he got some sort of infection . Any advice would be appreciated x

Hiya, does he appear to be straining if weeing in a litter tray? If so possibly either feline cystitis or possibly struvite crystals blocking his urethra. Both treatable with early veterinary intervention. It could also be a simple urinary infection too, or possible anal glands that are blocked, again both treatable but require veterinary care. Good luck and hope he's ok, please let me know how he gets on if you don't mind, I'll be thinking about him.

Hiya Jo, we went through the same thing a few years ago with our old cat and I just remembered how the vets said that without veterinary intervention, it could have proved fatal, due to the fact that he couldn't urinate. He suffered from it a couple of times again in later life too, but we were quicker to spot it and get him treated faster, as we wee more aware of what the consequences were. I'm so pleased he is on the mend and very glad to help if only a little, thanks for letting me know how he is I have been thinking about him all day. Take care and see you soon in 3D. Love Paula x

Hope he's insured. We had a Persian cat who was very prone to crystals forming and we had a few dramatic trips to the vet.Glad you looked after your puss so well.

Poor thing . It can be quite common but as said can be serious if left as the urine can back up and cause kidney problems. There are specific diets available for cats probes to stones

Unfortunately Harley is still not passing urine much so must be still blocking up so I think back to the vets monday the vet did suggest a catheter putting in long term or surgery . We've paid out £1200 already lesson to be learnt of no insurance . Thanks for your meddsges ladies xx

Jo, I know of a few cats that have had this type of surgery and it has been very successful. It basically turns them from weeing like a boy cat to weeing like a girl cat, so removes the narrow length of tube that is where the blockages usually occur. Our old cat nearly had it done but when Rutland House - our vet - sent us to a specialist vet in Cheshire to have it done, he ran a dye through his system and x rayed it and discovered that he didn't actually need it done and he then spent the rest of his days on Cystaid tablets and no longer had any issues for the rest of his life - he was 23 when he passed away! Good luck tomorrow with Harley, hope all goes well xxx

Hartley had a catheter put in today, the vet said his urine was clear no crystals but the bugger pulled the catheter out while he wasn't being watched so he's been kept in over night to see if he passes urine naturally ! Then next step surgery poor little mite no holiday for me this year lol x Thanks for your messages Paula you are a Gem xxxx

Aww Jo I'm sorry to hear that, poor little Harley, please God all goes well tonight and he goes naturally now the nasty crystals have gone. I'm sure you'd rather have Harley fit and well any day than a holiday, he is irreplaceable. I'll be thinking of you and keeping everything crossed. If however he does need the surgery it is usually very successful and quite common nowadays, whereas when we took Jasper, there was only one vet in the UK who could do it and it was still a very new type of procedure. Good luck to both of you and I'm always here if I can help in anyway at all xxx

I bet he's loving all the fuss and attention though too. Take care and keep us posted, will be thinking of you xxx

Hi Jo, such good news that Harley is home and back with his friends and his loving Mummy. It's good that he is happy to chase and play, as he must be feeling better to do that, as a poorly cat usually doesn't want to know. I'm really grateful for all your updates and so glad to help, you are a lovely lady and love all your animals very much, so it is always nice to help and support a friend like you. Good luck and I eagerly await the next instalment of Harley's story. Still got everything crossed for you. Take care xxx
