I'm sure there has been a thread about this before but I can't find it. What is the approximate weight ratio of horse to rider? I know it will be variable ie an overweight pony wont be expected to carry a proportionatly heavy jockey etc, but I'm sure I have seen an approximate. 20% springs to mind but interested on others opinions.

I know people have discussed this before and lots of people say 20% of horses body weight however Im sure iv read somewhere that 15% of the horses body weight is a much better figure for horses/ponies to carry on a regular basis.
This is not as much as some people might think and I know you see some jockeys that are clearly to heavy for the horse they are sat on. Just because its a big heavy cob does not mean it should have a big heavy jockey on top...
