Only one wild card across all ridden ponies and same for horses ... insufficient imo ... there should be one wild card just for ridden m&ms, the qualifying classes are so huuge, it will be easier for competitors in the smaller classes of sp and shp to get second places!

Poor horses/ponies will now get dragged around country even more to try and get the best 5 results to possibly get a wild card entry

Actually, I don't agree tbtg! Having been on the other end, we did not 'drag our pony' around the country at all. A few years ago, but were just unlucky in the qualifiers we did do and were 2nd 5 times! It would have been a lovely thing to at least be in with a chance of getting a wild card! Lets be grateful for any extra chances of qualifying for that much longed for ticket, and not always be quick to be negative. OK so it is only one for all the pony classes and one for the horse classes, but at least that is going the right way!!

Totally agree with this, should be the same as the championships at least, one for ponies, one for horses and one for M&M's.

I am not sure I fully understand it so apologies if this is wrong but from my take on it I am not sure it will help that much to 'reward' the most consistent pony. First of you have to win your section of the Tagga Ligga which doesn't pull your top 5 results in qualifiers it pulls all your results hence the more you do the more chance you have of winning it - so in theory encouraging a lot of traveling (although in fairness I don't know anyone who want's to win this award - they are usually traveling to qualify) Then if you win your section they take your top 5 results and you are in with a chance however looking at last years winners in for instance the m&ms (as it is the section I know) all the winners (I am not 100% on the highland) had qualified for HOYS so then would nobody get the chance of the wild card as it says you have to win your section?
If that is the case I think you will find very few sections of the m&ms even getting a chance for a wild card. To win the tagga you generally have to win a class at the end of the season to win the award - therefore been stood up the top most of the year and finally getting that elusive ticket is what gives you the win! so in theory qualified ponies can easily block non qualified ones
I might be reading it all wrong so apologies if that is the case. Would be interesting to see how many of last years winners across all sections actually hadn't qualified. I know in 2013 i think again the only one that hadnt was the winner of the fells/dales

That is why I am confused as it says
In 2015, all horses and ponies that TOP their relevant ridden section of the Tagg La Liga Awards, but who have not already qualified for HOYS, will have the chance to be awarded a Wild Card entry. There will be one Wild Card across all of the ridden pony classes and one Wild Card across all of the ridden horse classes.
So it sounds like you need to top your section but not have already qualified? not 100% sure

I think it is a fantastic idea, but personally I would rather win the qualifier and have that special moment of finding out i have qualified in the ring. Dont get me wrong, I would still be absolutely thrilled with a wild card and would cry my heart out but thats just my personal preference.
