I have often wondered why there is little transition up into the adult classes from ponies, with the majority moving from show ponies on to m&m or staying under the 14.2 ... My first class yesterday where I handed my mount over to a ride judge, for me to dread ever to do it again.. If I had expected neck reining, jabbing n smacking with the whip I could have taken her to uneducated first timers at my local riding school....n this was only the first class of the day, dread to think how the ride judge coped by the end of their section!!!!!!! This is what the little black book is for .... It is now open !!!!

I've seen a lot of awful ride judges and even know of a good few people who have seen the judge ride the first few horses and left the ring as didn't want the judge getting on the horse, we had to change my old hack into purely just an isrt as he was quirky anyway but with some of these ride judges now he would of got them off and put them on the floor badly so wasn't worth the risk, Lucky we have m&m again so no need to worry about ride judge apart from royal welsh.

I have once in the past declined to let the ride judge on and asked to do my own show. This was not a big qualifier though. I was not the only one in the ring to do this (PBA class).
My horse at the time was a four year old at his 3rd or 4th show and I didn't like the style of the ride judge, so took the decision so as not to upset him.

I can honestly say in all my time showing hunters I have never felt like withdrawing or regretted a judge riding. There have been occasions where a judge hasn't got a good tune from my horse, and others where they're got a better tune than me! - but never a bad experience. Maybe I've just been lucky?!

The first time I had a horse in a class with a ride judge I refused to let her ride my horse. A. he was too on his toes and getting bit stressy so I didn't want to upset him and B. she was very very heavy handed which would have upset my lad even more as he has such a soft mouth. The next ride judge I got was scared of riding the Ex-racer class in front of her so rode very quietly and delicately, barely touched their mouths and daren't move her legs. Needless to say the horses didn't go great for her but in her view she survived the experience lol! Not one of those horses put a foot out of line t any point in the class so I don't know why she was so worried.
The one that annoyed me most was the ride judge who got a better tune out of my horse than I do!

I had a TB used to be shown who was not happy with the ride judge so apparently he turned round and bit her. I have been to a big show seen ride judge and thought her style of riding was not going to suit our pony so excused ourselves.

Well my black book came out after weekend to add a name ...! The ride judge gave every horse a fantastic ride n we felt we had been judged fairly.. The judge watched every individual show from beginning to end ... In fact I would go as far as to say the judge was a breath of fresh air.... Your name is in the good section ... Thank you
