Hi Am new to all this so have some (possibly stupid) questions.
1. Do I have to register my pony with the BSPS in order to enter their classes? 2. How can I find out how high the working hunter fences are for cradle stakes/nursery stakes/small breed m&m's? I've looked on various websites, on images on google and there doesn't seem to be anything?
We have a sec A on loan to us who has a lot of promise and we'd like to take her to a county show or two but don't want to overface her if the jumps are going to be huge. She currently does 55cm local classes with lots more scope in the bag and isn't at all bothered by 'fancy' dressed jumps.
Thanks!

You can enter classes as a non member but can't qualify for the championships. If you go onto bsps website and look at the rule book all the heights are listed in there (can't help you as we do M&Ms)

If you have never been a member you do have 7 days to join if you are in a qualifying position. For cradle & nursery stakes (plaited) this would require a JMB height certificate to register the pony.

Thanks very much, found the heights in the back of the rule book, would never have found it otherwise. Pony was shown as a lead rein pony by its owner last year so still hasn't grown her mane out to full 'm&m' so I guess we've got a decision to make which way we go with her. Looks like the heights of jumps won't be a problem. Would you consider taking a sec A in cradle/nursery stakes or would you always m&m it?

Ponies do both M&M & cradle stakes (with the pony then plaited up) but generally a section A would be more suited to Cradle Stakes as a type, rather than the Nursery Stakes plaited class

Thanks very much for your help. I think I'll try and go along to the next BSPS show in the area and have a look at the competition. We could take her in both classes I suppose as I'm pretty quick at plaiting up if needs be! We went to the local show at the weekend - she won nursery stakes WH with my 5 year old son (there was no cradle stakes) then M&M WH with my 8 year old daughter, as well as first ridden M&M showing so is looking quite promising, having only been brought into work in January.

She sounds like a very versatile little pony! Good luck with her

She's going to make someone a fab pony, bearing in mind she's only 6. I am amazed how quickly she learns and she has great natural balance and self carriage. She's also going to be fab at SJ and is already on the pony club prince Philip cup games team. Nothing seems to bother her at all.
