What are you thoughts on horses/ponies wearing muzzles in the field? does it help in any way?

Yes! It's so much better for a fatty to be able to go out and stay out all day and be with his mates in a normal field leading a normal life. They can still pick grass and drink happily, although most ponies will tell you they don't like it!!!! Way better than getting lami or living in a concrete patch.
I once went to a vet talk , I can't remember the exact figures but it was frightening how much grass and calories and number of hours an unmuzzled horse can eat for. Again I can't remember exactly but I'm sure the vets worked out that muzzles keep the amount consumed down to about 10% would be interesting to hear these figures correctly, I was horrified how much they can eat quickly!

for my sec a that puts weight on when she breathes in (a bit like me lol)they are great, she only needs one when on lush grass and as mine isn't the best quality she hasn't had to wear it for 7years but when she needed one it was a great bit of kit. i found the bucket muzzle rubbed her face a bit but did see the other day one that had fur liner on it but the best by far is a greenguard muzzle x x
