I entered RIHS a couple of weeks ago and booked stabling etc. My horse has injured himself and will be off work for 3 months. I have a vets certificate. I phoned the RI people and they will refund 50% of the entry (with the certificate) but not the stable. I pointed out that the entries don't close for another week but they were adamant. I think it is unfair but would like to see if Im shouted down! Good luck to all those who are going......

Sounds unfair... Maybe try to sell the stable on here?

I think it's appalling. I understand if entries had closed and most charge an admin fee but that's harsh.
Hope your pony gets better soon.

I am afraid I am not surprised at all - Yes it is appalling in my opinion, that they won't refund 100%, but perhaps a small admin fee would be reasonable, though with everything computorised these days it only takes a minute or two to alter / delete an entry and relocate a stable! I have made my feelings felt, before on here that the showing side of RI are treated like second class citizens in comparison to the show jumpers at HICKSTEAD!! We pay far more in entry fees, get far less in prize money, and if you telephone with a query in my experience, the office can't get you off the phone fast enough!! Sorry to hear about your pony, I do hope it makes a full recovery as soon as possible.

Just a thought if you cancel your entry the organisers may cancel your stable as a procedure and then you won't be able to sell it on? Depending on how many entries you made and the amount of refund, you may be better off not cancelling the entries and selling the stable instead? Just looked at the entry rules and regulations regarding use of stables: 'Only those horses who have stabling reserved on their Entry Form can be stabled at Hickstead'Cancellation of Stabling No application for refund of charges paid can be considered after 5th June.
Re point 'b' the RI organisers cannot yet have ordered the final amount of stables required for the show. I think I would take your request for a refund to a higher level of management. It's unacceptable not to have any sort of refund prior to the show closing date Bad form on the organisers part
