Please, please take your pony out of the wilkie and the crank noseband straight away. Get the dentist to check his mouth and talk to you about mouth conformation and the sort of true snaffle which will suit him better. Also, do you mean he does it without the bridle when he is getting attention? That's rather unusual, it isn't a natural behaviour and almost certainly initially caused by the bridle armoury and perhaps become a bit of a habit. For now, I would not give him the attention that occupancies that behaviour and it isn't cute as you have found out.

Get his teeth checked & try a loose ring snaffle with lozenge. Your dentist can advise if you need a curved bit (better for ponies with a fleshy mouth/tongue who don't have much room in their mouth).
Is there a reason why you have opted to use a Wilkie with a crank noseband on a 'baby'?

Sorry, I'm not sure who you think is 'judging' - you asked for suggestions & got them. If you don't think his current bit is a problem why mention it?

A wilkie and crank are harsh. He's only six, go back to less is more. A lozenge and a cavasson nose band. A wilkie stiffens them so much through the back.
