I am new to the showing scene and need some advice please. We have a dark bay sec A, 4 white socks. My daughter has qualified for some regional RC championships, for first ridden M&M but I have no idea how correct our attire is. We are currently dressed as follows:
Pony - plain havana leather bridle, wilkie snaffle, laced leather reins. Havana fairly straight cut leather saddle (native pony saddle co. saddle) with brown straightcut fleece numnah and brown girth.
Child -navy blue hat (but is skull + velvet not showing hat), hairnet, navy blue and gold scrunchie, white shirt, navy blue and gold tie green tweed jacket with subtle navy and turquiose running through it brown gloves cream jodhs brown jodh boots brown jodh clips (sewn into jodhs)
Please be as critical as you like, I want to get it right! Plus should she carry a whip or showing cane or nothing? I've looked round the internet and seen alsorts of variations so am now more confused than before I started.
Thank you.

The pony's tack would appear to be correct. The best hat would be a real velvet Charles Owen with flesh harness. Not a Fiona as some Societies are phasing those out next year. I wouldn't put a hair net on a first ridden jockey. If the hair is long a pony tail or long plait with the scrunchie would be better. a white shirt is often a bit stark on a child so a cream or corn coloured one would be better. Also be better in canary or corn coloured jodhpurs. Brown leather gloves are correct as are brown jodhpur boots. An ordinary whip is fine as long as it does not exceed 75cm or 30". Or if she doesn't need one you can go without. You are allowed to carefully trim the pony's beard off and any excess hair sticking out of his ears but no cutting of mane, tail or feathers. Hope this helps

Pony's tack sounds correct, if you come across a nice sheepskin numnah for a reasonable price I'd get one, purely because they tend to be more comfortable for the pony as they wick away moisture and I've rarely had a saddle move on a proper sheepskin numnah. For the jockey; If hair is long enough for 2 plaits that would be more appropriate for first riddens, and ribbons to match tie instead of a scrunchie(hand tied rather than the pre tied ones on a slide. Also stitch a small bit of plaiting thread between the 2 plaits so they still hang the same but stops them flicking over the shoulders. I'd change the tie to a red tie with a navy stripe or spot as it will stand out more whilst still looking classy, Oxford tie company have a sale on their silk ties at the moment. Possibly change to a pale blue shirt or if you can find one on ebay/horsequest etc then pale blue with white collar and cuffs looks really smart. Jacket, gloves and boots sound good, I would change to corn or canary jodhpurs and stitch black elastic approx 3/4 inch wide to the bottom of the jods. Also one little thing that will make your daughter look a lot neater and more professional, instead of using the black/blue number strong provided, go to a haberdashery and buy some shearing elastic long enough to sit comfortably round your daughters waist without pulling the jacket, then tie a loop at both ends big enough to fit over the jacket buttons, I usually have mine on the middle button of my jackets but depends on where the buttons sit, worth experimenting pre show to see what looks best. I usually thread my elastic through over the top of the main bit of the number as it keeps it laying flat, trim the corners of the number as well so the corners are rounded, looks a lot neater and just adds to the overall picture. Hope this helps!

Hope this helps! Attention to detail, as always, Tabby! Completely agree with everything, but if you go with a red tie you'll need a different jacket as red won't go with turquoise! Easier and cheaper to stick with the jacket and tie you currently use. Also, school shirts are ideal, but if, like my daughter, your child has a slim neck and long arms, you'll need to buy either a shirt with arms which are long enough for the cuffs to show and then cut the back of the collar, overlap it where you've cut it and re-stitch it so it fits more neatly around your child's neck, or, if the collar width is right and the sleeves too short, cut the bottom half of the sleeves off, sew in a section of sleeve from another old shirt and then re-attach the part you cut off, which will make the shirt sleeves long enough for the cuffs to show! Hope that makes sense!!! Have fun x

Sorry didn't see that the jacket had turquoise in, had a bit of a blonde moment! A navy or pale blue tie would look best, you can get some ideas from Showing Selection or Mrs Candy Collections.

Thanks All - changes we've made were a 'proper' hat with a flesh coloured harness, pale yellow shirt, canary jodhs and elastic for her number. Didn't have time to get any ribbon but will do that next time.
