Hi, I'm doing my first HOYS qualifier at New Forest County, I'm doing the partbred pony of the year. I know how to do my show for the class but I saw a post about the winner of this class at TSR summer champs today who did a halt to canter and a three loop serpentine. I have never done this in a class before and wonder if anyone can give me some advice to do this or not? Is there anything else I can do in my show to help my ride mark ? Thanks in advance for any help.

sometimes the judges will give you a set show to do and sometimes it is up to you. The idea of the class is to show a well balanced, obedient pony, who has good free paces. So I would make sure you don't rush the trot or the canter but do show good lengthened strides in both paces. A serpentine in trot is always good to show the pony is supple and well schooled and if they rein back without resistance that can be a nice thing to add. I don't think anything more fancy than that is needed.
Good luck. New Forest is a lovely show to compete at

If you can do harder movements well it might be worth doing them, but you'll get a better ride mark for doing a well executed but simple show than one with extra movements that are done badly. It also depends on the type of pony - a show pony would be more likely to show something extra, such as a serpentine, than a hunter pony, where a good gallop is more important. I would have a couple of different shows that you know you can do well and then you can choose which is most suitable on the day if you're not given a set show, but make sure non of them are too long! Good luck

Agree with above - if you cant carry it off effortlessly don't do it!
I do think this will drive the trend in shows that are slightly different, I'm seeing more and more personally and this sort of thing may well force the hand of others who may attempt a more complex show without success in similar classes, an interesting thought if you are good at what you do!
