wanting peoples suggestions for some bit advice... Horse in question is up to date with teeth & back checks.. Currently in a straight bar happy mouth Pelham and once she's had a fight and a paddy she will drop on it but you have to really work for it. She would happly ride with her head in the air all the time... Really struggling to just get her to school happily and work nicely on the bit.. Wondering if anyone has had this struggle before and what bit they used, she is a thoroughbred. We are working towards getting her out under saddle her schooling is perfect but her head isn't, she can go very stiff on corners ect to.. so really trying to solve the problem asap.have tried stretchy neck work with treats ect to flex her neck, any advice would be greatly appreciated ! Thankyou

Go back to basics in a snaffle, particularly as your horse is a TB. Your horse should not be fighting and having a paddy and if she is more comfortable with her head in the air. Look, I really do not want to sound harsh but you have to accept that your schooling cannot be anywhere near perfect if your horse has her head in the air and is stiff on corners, you shouldn't have to "really work on it" what are you doing? When your horse is working correctly from behind her head will follow. Please get yourself a very good instructor/trainer. In my opinion a Pelham is not a good bit to school any horse in unless a heavy cob with challenging conformation but a TB is a sensitive soul. I think I may sound harsh but I wish you could experience working in harmony with your horse at whatever level you and she are happy at rather than repeated fights which really isn't where you should be taking your horse.

I have to say I agree with sageandonion, she can not be perfectly schooled if you are having to fight with her. I have m&m's who can be stubborn but I do not have to have an argument with them to get them to work correctly. I would say a Pelham is not the right bit for you, she will be inclined to fight the poll pressure on this bit even more. A snaffle in your horses preferred mouth piece would be best and a good instructor. I really wouldn't ride in anything other than a simple snaffle until the horse is soft over her back and working through from behind.
