My boys feet are just a mess!! He constantly pulls shoes off on a weekly basis - i'm at my wits end! they are flaking and when speaking to my farrier he said - when he hammers the nails in there is no resistance.
He's on 'Formula for Feet,' and has been for arround 2 months - i also constantly put on Cornucrecine(also have only just started using this as his other hoof oil did not seem to be having effect.
Is there anything anyone can reccommed i feed him/put on his hooves etc - i know alot of them seem to go through a similar thing this time of year but his are terrible!
Thanks - Sarah

Try Kevin Bacon hoof dressing - we found it did improve our conni's HWSD feet for a time. I was also advised to ensure that horse was getting high levels of zinc methionine as well as biotin in diet - found that equiform nutrition Happy Farrier powder helped a little. I also found linseed in the diet improved all the other's coats and feet though it didn't do much for his!!

Has the farrier recommended cornucrescine? In my experience, it speeds up horn growth rather than improve quality so can be detrimental as you end up with poor quality, quick growth rather than the body being able to utilise the hoof supplement to improve the horn.

We use Kevin Bacon hoof dressing and it really is very good. We are also using Keratex moisturiser. Keratex also have a hoof hardener. Have put the pony on Top Spec Lite feed balancer as it has all the key ingredients for helping to improve the hooves and it's none heating.
Key ingredients: Biotin, methionine, cysteine, calcium, zinc, copper, iodine,VBitamin A, C and E plus selenium.

Remember,it takes approx 12 months for a horses hoof to grow out so 2 months only equates to a 6th of the depth of the hoof.

Kevin Bacon hoof dressing, wouldn't be without it. We also add Biotin as a supplement (read the label, usually the zinc is in there as well).
In our case the horse just couldn't keep a shoe, lost many of them overnight so we decided to try going barefoot with him. He has now been barefoot for a couple of years, the mess that was there with all the nail holes has gone (unfortunately he gets vertical cracks too) and his feet are looking much better. He is on light work, and does not do any road work as we are fortunate enough not to have to go on any.
