Anyone any ideas on how I can stop my horse spinning at other horses coming towards him at any other pace than walk? He's perfectly happy to pass other horses in walk trot and canter aslong as they are in walk but as soon as they trot he either spins or sherks sidewards. He's also perfectly fine with a packed arena aslong as your all going in the same direction. i thought he was just being naughty at first so tried to ignore him and told him off but that just made him more nervous. I'm unsure whether he's had a bad experience in the past but as far as I'm aware he hasn't. Anyone else has this issue? Any suggestions on how I can build his confidence up with others? Thanks

Have you had his eyes tested? Perhaps he has something wrong with his vision?
My mare used to hate things coming towards her and it was just a case of ignoring the behaviour and getting her over it. However this may not be the case with yours.

I agree with checking his eyes, otherwise, I would work with one other and work up to riding towards each other at various speeds and then with one more, and then another, etc, etc. Confidence is the key here - and obedience. So, try asking the horse to stand still whilst others pass, of moving toward them is too much. hacking out with others should help too.

My D started doing this she was fine if i was riding with a horse she knew but would get very nervous with strange horses especially larger ones, i know she hadn't had a bad experience so just kept taking her out and riding in company as much as possible, when i saw another coming towards us i would ask for a transition or circle away to distract her and she has got a lot better but will still have a little look.
