Booked my room way back in April just been told hotel will not be ready and reservation cancelled. Wished I'd stuck to Hilton ?. Hilton and CP now sold out. Anyone got any ideas? Has anyone else had reservation cancelled?

I know it's not ideal but always an Idea trains start 5.50 between Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International and last train is at 11.48; takes 10-15min so the city centre is always a possibility even if not quite as convenient as a hotee on the NEC complex

I stayed at the Ibis, it's only a budget hotel but it was very clean and the room was fine. There is a shuttle bus that goes from just outside the hotel straight to the NEC. Can recommend it 100%

I have had a phone call this afternoon saying they were not gojng to be ready we have a pony there and I 1 am recovering from major surgery so need a proper bed rather than the lorry. We booked the Genting rather than the CP as it is slightly nearer the arena and despite me having rung a month ago as we had heard rumours that they might not be open Iwas promised this was not the case and they would be open on time. The hotel they offered me was completely useless 15 minutes away ,we are now left with no alternative and it has completely ruined what was going to be a wonderful week. No offer of compensation just well there's nothing we can do as I said totally unacceptable.

I have worked in travel for many years...these people need to offer you an alternative. Its also just a thought but alot of hotels will be block booked by Society judges etc..it may be worth trying to see if any of them have rooms booked but not needed for all nights..or try asking grandstand to see if they can help you ...many hotels also keep rooms available for "walk ins" that they don't show as available on the booking sites..I would ring round and ask them all... these questions...sorry this has happened to you it's rubbish

Glad i saw this thread, we have also booked at Genting, although i didn't make the booking so haven't had a phone call but am assuming my dad has!
The irony is that i work for the company building it....... (it's a big company, and i have nothing to do with that arm of it!)

On Monday, I got 2 rooms for Wed to Monday at Crown Plaza for a friend which were available due to cancellations , she had also booked the Genting. I am so glad I stuck with the good old Crown Plaza---------------been staying there since the first year HOYS moved. Maybe still worth a try ?

The first thing I did was try the Cp as its the only hotel that would be nearer enough fo me but they are completely full as the Genting had apparently been letting people know for a few days before we were told so Iam on a waiting list there . The reason I am so annoyed is that apparently they have know for a while that they may not be ready but were still lying to people when they made enquiries.

My friend tried to get rooms on Sunday and was told she had been put on a "waiting list" However, I had to ring on Monday about my booking and asked in passing and got the two rooms. If I were you, I would keep ringing CP . You never know.

My advise to anyone has always been, never book to stay in a new build hotel until it's been open for 3 months. Applies everywhere in the world-------------they rarely open on time I'm afraid. I see this all the time where I live abroad and it always causes heartbreak.
I do hope you get in somewhere, this is so shabby. Good luck .

Hi there if it was me you were asking and if it was thank you I was booked in Tuesday and wednesday and would not normally be so bothered if I had not just had major surgery and there is really no other hotel that would fit the bill . Thanks for helping if you can .

I booked the Ibis yesterday, no problem , but it was 165 pounds for a twin room. I took free cancellation though, so it would have been 155 without. Not cheap is it? Very convenient for NEC though.

I phoned Genting and we had already been allocated rooms at the CP as an alternative. Hopefully that's true (awaiting email confirmation) .

any of the Birmingham airport hotels are a good option as the shuttle into NEC runs every minute or 2 and is free. We usually stay at Ibis but booked Novotel this time they are very convenient and get concession in car park

Stayed at Novotel, ibis, etap, Hilton, over priced. Look a teeny bit further out, you will be surprised at what you can find for a fraction of the price. It annoys me that e Tap an ibis are so cheap otherwise.Thhe beauty of the nec is it so well set out, you can get into town with a fifteen min train ride. Or jump on and off the motorway and there's lots of guest houses x
Was talking to a steward , he said that the date he s heard is around the 21 st of October, it looks fab but very undressed in side. Of course thats no consolation is it. Awful service.

We stayed in the Arden this year was about a 10 minute walk. the best bit was we parked the car there at 6.30am on Wednesday and didn't move it until 9pm on Thursday night and we didn't have to pay any extra for this, i did check with the hotel. we have in the past stayed at local B&B's but then you have to pay for parking at the NEC for 2 days. will def be looking at the Arden for next year.
