BSPS: Your pony can enter any M&M ridden or WHP class that he is eligible for eg - Novice (if he has never denoviced with any previous owners - you will need to check this with BSPS if you are unsure) Restricted Open (animal not to have been placed 1st to 8th at RIHS, HOYS & Olympia in current or previous year except Pretty Polly) & Open
For novice FLAT classes you must ride in a snaffle - for all other classes it is any suitable bit excluding running gags & bitless bridles.
The pony, owner & rider must be registered in order to qualify for BSPS Champs BUT if you have never been members you have 7days after the show to register.
Classes are usually for New Forest & Connemara combined, but sometimes they are for large breeds &/or separate breeds - the schedules will specify
M&Ms do not need a height certificate to register but they do need one if they qualify for HOYS (but not to do the qualifiers) Whatever his age he must previously have an annual height certificate before he can get a FULL certificate (no such thing as a life height certificate) - if not then if he is measured he will receive an annual one & you may get a full certificate the following year as he is over 7.
RIHS have qualifiers just for Home Produced animals but owners, riders & animals have to be registered in order to enter the qualifiers (this is also the case for HOYS & Olympia qualifiers)
Hope this helps

Heritage is the term the BSPS use for M&M(Mountain and Moorland).
For the NPS just the owner has to be registered with the society, to qualify for the Summer finals the owner must be a qualifying member and their membership card must be produced in the ring at the time of qualifying.

horsecards - as tabbyx says "Heritage" is the term used by BSPS for all their M&M classes
The quote you have written means that any novice breed (Dartmoor, Exmoor, Shetland, Fell, Dales, Highland, New Forest, Connemara & Welsh Section A, B, C or D) can enter the class if they are eligible for Novice & as WHP is not listed then this is a flat class so must be ridden in a snaffle bridle.
I shall leave someone else to explain the NPS classes - they basically have the same "breed type" classes but they all have sponsors names in them & I am not current with those, but the novice classes are normally in a section referred to as the "Picton" - HOWEVER the NPS novice rules are more stringent than BSPS where ponies are really allowed to continue as novices until they are 6, with a few exceptions.
If or when you join BSPS you will get a rule book which lists everything you need to know & provides hours of happy bedtime reading LOL!

Join the British Connemara Pony Society - there are regional shows, many with very novice/nursery ridden and WHP classes. Plus, a points scheme that runs throughout the year - have a look on their website- lots of info re breed trimming guidelines etc.
