We have one with kidney disease, now also 14yo. We have been struggling with her health since before last winter when she started going off her food, eventually diagnosed by referral vet and again, suitable diet the only treatment. The first brand she were told to try she didn't like and wouldn't eat, but on advice from the nutritional specialist nurse at our surgery we tried the "Specific" range which she's very happy to eat, much to our relief. She has mostly the dried version (cheaper!) with a bit of wet food, but she does drink happily, some don't in which case wet food is recommended to get more liquid into them. She's now really really well, bouncing around like a cricket wanting to play again and putting on weight. It's Specific Heart and Renal Support Diet, available of course on the internet. I hope yours likes it, good luck.
Oh, and if vet sends you home with a canine shewee to collect a sample, first thing in the morning is the best time to try to get one! We've spent hours following ours around the garden - she doesn't like peeing on a lead as she's seldom on one, no need having the brain of an obedient, intelligent collie.
As a result, we now have a pack of three biggish dogs - we like to have two dogs as company for each other, and not expecting to have this one much longer in the state she was in, we adopted a retired racing greyhound to add to the other two, expecting to have three only for an "overlap" period but are thrilled that the senior dog looks like being longer with us. Senior dog is collie x saluki lurcher, and middle dog is a rescue saluki, then the greyhound.

Feed boiled rice with whatever else you give her, it acts as a naturel duretic which should help the kidneys to continue with a healthy function.

I've been told to feed nothing but the special diet as the mineral/electrolyte balance is critical so maybe check with you vet - it may vary with the exact condition of the kidneys.

On the collecting wee situation, I managed to clean some concrete well enough to quickly syringe up from it when my dog wee'd. I was concerned it would be too contaminated, but it worked perfectly well for quite a while (dog had a bladder stone and had to be watched). She would not pee on the lead or in front of us (!) so this was the best way for us. Good luck

But she'll happily pee on cleaned up concrete? I'm sure ours wouldn't, grass with nice smells is her idea of a peeing place.
