Hi Janet
Just had a look at NCPA Cumbria's schedule which says POYS is at Warren Farm. Just wondering if that is correct?

Yes it is. Robaston has become ever difficult to set up, being a "green field site" which needs a massive amount of manpower & costs in hiring in, plus the constant problem of no on site stabling, which causes problems for many members (or even stops them competing).
Many options were discussed by the Trustees, but when availability, geographic location & costs were factored in this excellent venue came out top.
The new Switch island link road has also made the journey from the motorway network so quick & easy.
The North of England Spring show is being held there this year too, so loads of members & potential members will have a preview & we will have an opportunity to see the venue in action for a big affiliated show as well.
Looking forward to seeing you all there!

The Richmond show is on 1st October & will be an open show rather than a Northern POYS - sadly as you are aware it was not well supported numerically & feed back suggested it was having to be a member & cost of entries (with sashes ,plaques etc to cover they could not be any cheaper!)
The schedule for Richmond is not yet done but there will be no WHP this year (costs) & the schedule will not have to take the same format as POYS, so there will still be plenty for all & an EP (ideal pre HOYS for the Northern people?) so it will still be a brilliant day at an excellent venue, but hopefully now that it wont clash with Fayre Oaks & the other issues raised have been addressed, we should have a increase in entries!
POYS venue is now more central for the spread of membership (yes I appreciate it is in the west!) & with onsite stabling (booked direct with WF) there should not be the same need for a Northern POYS

Bigmama - membership is a couple of £s cheaper if you do it online! Done it tonight on line but I did get charged an extra £3 for doing so (£28 in total)
Question, please Janet: Why won't the NCPA website allow me to delete from on-line profile, ownership of a pony we no longer have?
Thank you

Really sad to read this. I know you can't please all the people all the time, but it was the first time of running it, and I will not be the only one disappointed that you don't feel it was good enough to build on. Sadly it will mean I won't bother renewing my membership this year. I will still support the northern area but if there is no northern pony of the year there is no incentive for me to be a member.

I have to say I agree with this, a steward said to me at Richmond "they asked for a northern show but no one has come", yet when I asked the same steward to hold our ridden class because we were still in our inhand class she and the judge refused (despite the efforts of the secretary). We travelled 90 miles to support the show and I spoke to a man from the Midlands who was in a similar situation with classes clashing. Rings were running on time so there was no need to refuse to wait and that hardly encouraged people to return next year. All of this apart we had a lovely day and its a shame that NCPA can't try and build on last year's show. Out of I interest, where will the second golden ticket finals be held?

Probably because the animal was registered before 2014 when the online system went live & so may not be within the scope but could be because allowing complete "deletion" would mean people could delete things by mistake, with all the problems that would cause. The other reason is that animals are registered for life & if you no longer own the animal the new owners may wish to do a "transfer of ownership" so the details would need to be there.
There has to be an online booking fee (as for theatre tickets etc) as PayPal take their % as do entry master & we have the cost of postage which we need to cover, but it is still cheaper online.

All of this apart we had a lovely day and its a shame that NCPA can't try and build on last year's show. Out of I interest, where will the second golden ticket finals be held? Sorry about this - I was judging in WHP ring & we certainly waited for anyone with problems so that is very disappointing to hear. Regarding the "gentleman" from the Midlands we are still trying to recover money from dishonoured cheques, so I don't have same sympathy for him! This type of behaviour is one reason for encouraging the use of the online systems & raising costs for cheque based transactions. It is a sad fact but the majority of honest people end up suffering because of the dishonest few. At NCPA we pride ourselves on keeping costs down as much as we can. For those saying they will not be renewing their membership, we are obviously very sorry to hear this, but at a maximum of £30 for single adult membership it does not take long to "make this back" through reduced rate entry fees at NCPA shows. There will be no second Golden Ticket as even these entries (FOC) were disappointing in number & this competition which was intended as a one off celebration for 2014 for our golden jubilee year will simply revert to the one competition at POYS. Hope I've answered all the points. I should have been at showing council today but unfortunately I have one of those particularly unpleasant winter bugs & have sent my apologies as could not have done the drive, but have my iPad next to my sick bed LOL

The move for POYS to Warren Farm sounds brilliant. Although slightly further away for me, it really does seem to be a good decision.
I wasn't at the Northern POYS but I have always found the NCPA to be very accommodating and to keep the show but have it as an open show is far better than cancelling it all together surely?
Janet, I haven't renewed my membership yet but it's on my list of things to do - unfortunately I had an extremely large vets bill just before Christmas trying to save my dog who suddenly fell ill. Once finances are back on track, I will get it sorted!

Please don't get me wrong, I wasn't criticising changing the Richmond show to an open show, I was just making the point that it was a shame that the ring I was affected by wouldn't wait when as sjw87 says the NCPA is usually very accommodating and the experience could have put other people off attending the next show (obviously I wasn't aware when I posted last night that the man from Midlands had dishonoured cheques!) Anyway, I will be renewing our membership as soon as January's payday comes round next week and I am extremely pleased about the move to Warren Farm as it is much closer for us and an excellent venue. Just need to get some ponies qualified now!

No probs comanchediva - NCPA are always happy to receive feedback - good or bad - otherwise we wouldn't be able to introduce new ideas, implement necessary changes etc
All the Trustees try very hard to put on what the members want, but as said above we can't please everyone, but that is not for want of trying.
The decision was made to keep the Northern Show but change the format to encourage entries - who knows what could happen in a few more years, but we are a charity & the Trustees have to be mindful of their financial decision making as they hold legal positions within the Charity & this show in the POYS format was very expensive to run, but we hope that it may build up now & I am sure that there will be a cheaper entry rate for NCPA members to benefit from, so still worth joining.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it would probably have been better to start as an Open Show & as we built up a customer/exhibitor base then move to the Membership show.

Sure hope you feel much better very soon xx
