WEEVERS SWEET WILLIAM
Arab Part Bred, Bay, Gelding, 18 years, 14 hands
FULL UP 14 hand, rising 19 (but 6 at heart!), Part Bred Arab gelding
Advert has been written by his current jockey on lease.
We have had William on lease for 2 and half years now, his owners have had him since he was 5, and he has gone through their 3 daughters. He came to us with the view that he would go back to them for the younger daughter, but she has lost interest, and he is far too young at heart and still has too much to give to another jockey to retire.
In his day, Wills was a top class working hunter pony, winning many classes and championships, and qualified for Horse of the Year Show. He was also in the Welsh Working Hunter Pony Team. As well as being successful in Show Hunter Ponies.
Since we have had him, William has been an amazingly fun pony for me and never disappoints me. He has been a back up to my younger 14 hand worker. However he still managed to qualify for Royal International last year at his only attempt and went champion, but didn’t end up going because my main commitment is in my other pony who had also qualified. He has also won many classes up the BSPS Summer and Winter Championships with me and took me round my first 14hand Desert Orchid at 1m15. He will jump any jump, and is never spooky. This year he also won the 1m Eventers Challenge at the Sunshine Tour at Hickstead, being the only pony in it. He was one of only two clear rounds out of probably 50 horses, and was the only one in the time!
William has hunted the last two seasons, and has been absolutely amazing, and never says no to any size hedge or other hunting hazards (ditches, water etc.) He will lead big horses over hedges too. Doesn’t mind being right up the front with the field master, or right at the back. He goes all day and never gets tired (doesn’t show his age at all). He is a well-loved pony in the Surrey Union hunt and many people would give amazing references for him. People are always commenting on how amazing he is, and often say ‘follow that one over the hedge, he will jump it’
We were also part of the Surrey Union hunt-relay team at Hickstead and Royal Windsor where he was one of the only ponies participating!
William is also very good at Arena Evening and Show jumping as he is very quick against the clock and turns really tight.
He is a complete machine out cross country and will jump anything. Skinnies, bounces, doubles, drops, ditches, water. Nothing fazes him. Someone out on a cross country course schooling their eventer once said that he should be doing FEI eventing, but that was before she knew he was 18, and she couldn’t believe it!
William is a real character and will be truly missed by everyone who knows him. He is however a miserable old man on the ground, but it’s all just a front as he never actually does anything, just pulls faces and looks horrible!
He is very fit and tough, and is never sick or sorry. Even after a full days hunting, his legs never swell, or he never comes out sore or stiff the next day.
Wills is now ready to move onto his new home where he can give some other gutsy kid a really fun time. He not a novice ride as he is very forward going ride and bouncy, but would never buck, rear, bold or intentionally try and get you off.
Will only go to the very best of homes.
Loads more photos and videos on request.
