???I have just put my mare on this stuff and she has got worse. I cant walk any horsepast her stable without her stamping, making this dreadfull sound and making a fuss. She has been on the stuff for just over a week. TBH I thought it was going to be wonderful stuff.
Before whilst being ridden she would act up and whizz around being silly and it would become a battle,. Now she is worse if anything comes near her she is annoyed and I can feel her starting to hump her back and get tense.
I have asked a few friend but sensibly they have geldings.
is this to be expected?

Contact your vet to ensure you are giving the correct dose. We used this on one of our 'Diva' Mares and it was brill..now has a marble - fingers crossed it stays in

i believe you can get some mares that have adverse reactions like some people on hormone replacement, best discuss it with your vet. Verena.

I had the most lovely mare, who acted badly especially early spring, but pretty bad each month, through the summer. I put her on "oestroban" which is a herbal supplement that supresses testosterone in mares, rigs and stallions. Its very cheap and effective. However, by the time she was 6, she became dangerous when in season, litterally leaping into the road, arching her back to tell me to get off and then sweating/jogging in an unexplainable way.
Most people told me "get rid"... "bloomin chesnut mare" etc etc, but she was so lovely inbetween seasons that I knew she must be in pain.
My vet discussed Regimate with me, but the cost long term, was going to be huge. We then discussed having an overectomy, which I didnt like the idea of, but when pushed into whether I was intending to breed from her, the answer was no.
I agreed to have this done (not on insurance, as for behavioural reasons), the cost was going to be £800 approx. This was cheaper than Regimate.
However, when they operated, they found her ovaries to riddled with CANCER. No wonder the poor mare was dangerous when in season. She was in excruciating pain. This form of cancer is contained in the overies, so they were happy it would not have spread. It was all paid for by insurance, as there was a medical problem afterall.
She soon recovered and was back in work. She was still hormonal for a couple of months, but that is the norm apparently.
She went on to become the most fantastic dressage horse, you could ever wish for.
Heartbreakingly, a bolt of lightening came and took her from me, when she was just 8 years old.....

Thanks for the replies, sorry for not getting back been away. Anyway, yes it was the vet whom prescribed the Regumate and things have improved. She has become better. I think she just needed to settle on it. So hopefully this is how she is going to be.

I have always had mares of all different breeds including thoroughbreds- from the age of 3- why do they all get tarred with the same brush? I've never had a bad one yet! I love my girls.

I love my mare and I think she is very special . But just recently I started to have a few problems with her and it was the vet who said she would prob be more comfortable on it and I should see some positive results. So I am trying this expensive thing on her

Thanks. Worst day of my life. Had phone call 4.30 am from yard owner to say " your horses have broken the fences and field shelters, and have killed each other" I was like WHAT....
Poor old boy was in total shock. His house was struck. Field shelter dimolished. Stable roof's burnt. 2 dead horses. 2 very fightened ponies.
My friends mare had taken direct hit to the neck. Blood everywhere.
My beloved mare and "best freind" was upside down, with her legs bolt upright in the air. Electrocuted.
I can assure you, its something I will never get over.
Councelling is a necessary thing for grief/traumatic shock of that level.....
