What classes etc do you want to judge, and what experience do you have already. The answer depends on these issues really.

Watch as many classes of the type you are interested in and see what the judges are looking for (results will vary due to personal choice but youll get the idea). If you steward at local level ask the judge to chat to you between classes or afterwards about their choices and reasons for placings. Read the rules for the types of classes you would like to judge. Offer to probation either informally at local level or formally through one of the societies. Many local shows will accept probationers wth their appointed judge and once agreed you can approach judges for permission to accompany them. Attend any judges/showing seminars advertised as sometimes these are open to everyone. Read as many of the showing books as you can and study the ideal types. Learn what is required for different classes as the competitors always know!!! Which area are you from? there may be some judges who come on here willing to take you under their wing. Good luck, its a very rewarding hobby (most of the time!!!) Oh and have a thick skin and a sense of humour.
