There is a difference between hourly paid employees and salaried employees but I'm not saying that this alters the pay scale. Different contracts require the employee to work different hours. Normally, hourly paid employees will be paid overtime for any hours they work above and beyond the normal weekly contracted hours. Salaried employees tend not to be paid overtime and may get time off in lieu of extra hours worked. Working hours/number of hours to be worked depend on the job you are doing and your contract of employment. It may be that you work long hours in one period of the month and shorter hours in the other weeks. Suggest you look at ACAS pages that will give you up to date information on employment. The easy answer first re. hours. The working time regulations use an average of 48hrs a week over 17 weeks so you can work lots of hours one week so long as you then work less another week to balance out. You can opt out of this but an employer can't force you to. See here: www.gov.uk/maximum-weekly-working-hours/overviewIn terms of salary, you are wise to ask for an hourly figure. In the past it has been as Kate says but some less scrupulous companies make an offer based on a salary figure but pay hourly based on that without telling you how many hours a week the salary is based on. For example, if you are offered a salary of £20k, you could presume that this is based on a 37.5hr week and work out your hourly rate accordingly. If you then find that the salary has been based on a 45hr week, the hourly rate is far lower. My advice would be to request a contract before you start and read it carefully, questioning any ambiguity or anything you don't fully understand - don't sign it unless you are happy with it. Quick update, original request for info seems to have disappeared I had a pm from Casprinela600 and worked out her hourly pay over a year based on her salary, which was satisfactory and not below the nmw, since then had another pm and she has had a wage increase along with other staff, a happy outcome for her. Bug bear of mine posters asking for help, getting it and not letting us know of results/outcome, that's why I'm posting this, so others won't waste their time responding
