This will be my first year at The Royal Welsh and i will be competing with my Sec A. Any advise and things I should know about? Other than videos on YouTube I have no idea what to expect.
Thanks in advance

very limited car-parking, no bbqs allowed. Prams, the last time I was there , are allowed in the stabling area which you have to go through to get to the horse walk. Long queques to get in, very stoney ground where the boxes are parked. If you are in the top 3 you have to parade to get your money, you wait for ages in line, might get mowed down by a bull or have some idiot charging around behind you on a quad. Personally even though we always did very well there I hate the show. Good luck and have fun.

Lol GW!!!!
I personally love the show. The atmosphere is electric especially for the A & D stallion classes.
Your first trot out is EVERYTHING so make it count. After your initial trot out you will be placed on either the front line or back line. The front line will do an individual show and the back line usually leaves the ring.
As GW says the parking is pretty bad. If you aren't there by Saturday before the show you won't get on the hill (something we've never been too bothered about TBH as by the time you've walked up and down a few times you'll be glad you parked at the bottom!!!!! )
It's a great experience but it's very much like the other large County shows. Just in Wales with lots of Welsh ponies!! You will wonder where all these ponies come from especially in the A's with 60 - 90 in the classes!!!!
And if your old enough, party til you drop!!!!!!! Lol. Enjoy x

Make sure you pony gets a good look at the crowd. When you go down to horse walk make sure you don't go down too early it can be rather tight as there'll be other classes waiting to go in too. Good spot is down back of sheds a bit, you ll see, down back of stallion barn. Electric atmosphere, theres nothing quite like it. Getting to parade is lovely, had the honour of showing for a friend last year well in the ribbons, a fab experience. Remember stables not available til seven and they're pretty strict so timing a good thing. I don't know if you going early like the Saturday or later but if you go o. Weekend it's gonna be real busy and get quieter a little Sunday night.
the most magical place,on earth in the third week of July. Rain or shine.pure magic.

The only thing that annoys me is the as seen on tv stands, the gadget things, far too many of them. Love the farmers row, excellent local produce, cooked up for you, without a doubt the best place to eat on the field. Love the food hall I try and go there later when it s a bit quieter. Love the handy burger king across the road lol. And the fresh lemonade is a daily pilgrimage if the weather is hot. With extra sugar, of course.
Drovers arms in town good for breakfast.
Be prepared for four seasons In one day and you ll be fine!
