I have a 15 year old gelding who I compete most weekends and is worked 6 times a week, he has stiffness in his hocks which has been treated by the vet and physio and in all other expects he is the picture of health.
I purchased him some magnetic boots over the winter thinking they would help and I started to use them last week and I think they have made him stiff!? Has anyone had this problem? I used them for 2 evenings and have stopped using them immediately and he is absolutely fine again.
I don't think I will use them again but I just wanted to see if anybody else has had this problem as I thought magnets were supposed to help them?
Thanks

I've had great success with premier equine magnetic wraps (supportive as well as magnet therapy).
I know they recommend them to be introduced gradually and not for more than 12 hours but I'm not 100% sure on the reasoning behind this.
Is your boy comfortable wearing boots? Just wondering if he didn't move around and lie down as much as usual, causing him to be stiffer?

As sjw87 says, introduce gradually and don't leave them on too long. Follow the instructions and all should be well.
We also use Premier Equine Magnetic wraps and we have found them to be brilliant with a horse that had a collateral ligament issue. We put them on daily for about 4 hours to help increase the blood flow and we have seen a definite improvement.
Contra indications are if there is a fresh injury (a cut or such) when magnetic boots shouldn't be used until the cut has healed; otherwise they could cause excessive bleeding to the injured area.

Thank you both, I am also using the premier equine boots. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but it has really put me off wanting to use them again. I had them on for around 8 hours so maybe I should reduce the time to an hour or 2 to begin with. Yes he is absolutely fine in boots and has a very relaxed nature. Thank you

Hi cg You are right, you probably had the wraps on for too long. Start with an hour and work upwards
