Hi just after people's thoughts and had a lovely welcome to the group, I have a mare that I brought in September she has been lightly backed and now turned away, very sweet in all ways, I just don't get her or feel what I should for her, it makes me feel guilty that she is sweet kind polite but she gets nothing from me, I also have another novice pony gelding totally in love etc he's not going any where, just thinking that there is probably someone out there who could give my mare all the love that she deserves and she would be better off there, it's kind of like we don't click, feeling guilty help! ?

no need to feel guilty, not everyone gels and if the chemistry is not there it's not there. Advertise her for sale and see what happens. Do you really need 2 horses? Maybe you have found your equine partner with the gelding.

I would wait until she's back in work and see how you feel then . You see a whole different side to them when you're riding them and , for me anyway , this is when the feeling of being a partnership really develops - just the two of you concentrating on each other , getting to know what makes them tick , their strengths and weaknesses , the feeling of achievement when something goes well or when you find the solution to a problem . .Nothing like a bit of team bonding for bringing you closer ! We've had ponies in the field that I've felt quite indifferent about until I've started riding them and then suddenly they seem like different characters - or at least I start to see them in a different light . And if you do still decide to sell , you'll have a better chance if she's in work . Just don't make a hasty decision you may regret later .

I had an ex racer who was lovely, qualified for hoys but I just didn't feel it with her. I never really wanted to ride her, just rode my Warmblood instead. Lovely mare, just no bond. Tried for 12 months then sold her to my friend who rode her and loved her. Still see her everyday but she has the perfect partner now and I have another ex racer who I adore.

Just like people we don't all get along and have the same personalities. She will never give you her all if she knows how you feel and I'm sure that will be something she can sense.
Sometimes it's better to move them on and start afresh.
