Top Class Dartmoor gelding
Top class, up to height (127cm - measured at home), 7 year old, black dartmoor gelding. Merry (Stourton Limerick) is the type that is hard to find; a definite HOYS and RIHS pony of the future for junior or open ridden.
Merry is a deep bodied pony, with good bone and straight movement. He is a responsive ride, light in the hands and a pleasure to ride. We bought him as an unbroken 4 year old for my 12 year old daughter. She did her last season of first ridden on him, and he then took her on to junior and open ridden. He has also been successful, in local level whp, show jumping, dressage and eventer trials. He has always been beautifully behaved at shows, and seems unfazed by anything - we took him to Equifest just a few months after being broken, and he took it all in his stride.
Merry has relatively low show mileage, as last year I had an accident, which meant that we could not compete, so he was just enjoyed as a pony at home and loved being pampered by my girls, and hacking out alone and in company. My daughter adores him, but she is now 5'6 and still growing, so is need of a bigger pony. She is also now studying for GCSEs, so we just don't have the time to get this lovely boy out and his potential is being wasted with us.
Merry is easy to keep - will live in or out, and loves to be pampered - he has the gentlest of natures. He is good to load, travel, bath and with farrier and he does not have any vices. He is usually ridden in a snaffle, but will go in a Pelham if you wanted to for open ridden. He has been ridden by a confident 10 year old but we do not feel that he would be suitable for a novice or nervous rider. However, his size and depth mean that he easily takes up the leg of a teen or small adult and I feel that his forte is in junior or open ridden. Merry loves to jump and has great jumping ability and I feel that he could go far in m&m whp. He can sometimes be more forward going when jumping larger courses, so would probably be more suited to an experienced jockey for workers who can enjoy it with him. We would love to see him go to a showing home where he can fulfil his potential and get to HOYS.
This is a very sad sale, and we really are looking for the right kind of home for Merry.
We are based in Suffolk.
