I have a traditional stallion who is a real old fashioned type. HUGE Shoulders, HUGE bottom and short coupled in the middle. He needs a proper 'banana' tree if you know what I mean. He had a thorogood cob saddle which fit him lovely but now I'm struggling with a show saddle that accommodates his shoulders and doesn't have too flat a tree... Fylde Marjorie are okay... But still a bit flat in the middle.. Are all fylde a on the same tree? I assume they are. Are there any better types with banana tree and wide enough for huge shoulders ?!!

I don't think all Fylde's are on the same tree, as when I was talking to Peter one day when we were getting a saddle I asked about a saddle we liked and he said the tree would be wrong. We use a Fylde Davina on ours. We struggled to find one short enough for pony and big enough for jockey, as pony has the cook's backside, massive shoulder and short coupled LOL.

I was going to get a thorn but they aren't allowed in chaps classes I believe? Is this in classes with a ride judge (over 148)?

A friend. I thought it was just in the rules... I'll check!

Page 21 of the BSPA rulebook "no seat savers or treeless saddles permitted".

How ridiculous when the judge doesn't ride. Hey ho, to have the perfect horse eh!! Hope you find the right saddle for your boy. Never did BSPA with Raydar so not up on their rules.

Don't think CHAPS have the same rule as we have won classes in our Thorn but I'd better check the rule book ?

No I believe CHAPS you can have treeless! Stupid I know don't see why you can't have a treeless... It's still a show saddle and looks the part! its okay for the moment but he is a stallion and plan on grading with Bspa in Autumn, so don't really want to buy a brand new thorn just for a few months and possibly have to change... Eurghhhh

I have an Arab with a similar shape to your horse I tried a few showing saddles but they were just too flat and because most are close contact they just don't suit his shape, I ended up buying a brand new dressage saddle and had short girth straps put on the saddle so it looks more like a showing saddle, dressage saddles tend to have a curvier tree in general so I think you will find something more suitable for him if you went down this route.
