Two years ago we bought a lovely new 3.5t horsebox, from a very well known Lancs based firm. The first year we hardly used it at all, due to me having an accident two days prior to its delivery. It was my dream come true and I was thrilled to bits with it and at £23,500 I expected it to last and stay smart for a reasonable length of time, especially due to it's very limited use. However, the dream is over and we have a problem with the paint work peeling and chipping off along the front grille and number plate and it has really upset and disappointed me tbh.
I contacted the company, who basically told me to send some pictures which I did and they would get back to me, after two weeks of hearing nothing I have rang them today, having spoken to Trading Standards, who told me it was unacceptable under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, as it has not been durable enough. I was told to put it in writing to the company that I would like a repair as entitled to under this Act, only to be basically fobbed off and told that I could do whatever I liked but it wouldn't get me anywhere as the Trading Standards information was wrong and also that they no longer used the company who did the original paint job, as they had gone out of business - hardly surprising said I - however I was told that it could be repaired at a cost to me of between £300 - £500 and they would be doing me a favour!!!! I am so angry and disappointed, I gave them every chance to do the decent thing and this is how they treat their customers. I have also sent a lot of people to them for boxes, but never again now. I am not going to name them on here, as I just want ed to see if anyone could help me as to how to approach this matter and maybe sort it out. I feel that a brand new box, that as cost an awful lot of money should not have the paintwork peeling off it after such a short space of time and very little use.
Any advice, ideas etc gratefully accepted. Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that this is very unfair of the company involved. I haven't argued, got nasty or fallen out with them as I preferred to try to sort it amicably, but they don't want to know unless I give them more money, for a job I just don't think will be done properly again.
