I used it and it didnt lose the hair, but didnt lose the splint either. Waste of money! I did used to know a very wise showing lady, that knew of something that got rid of them, plus capped hocks and all sorts.
She wouldnt tell me what it was though, as it came from America and wasnt legal here.
Brilliant stuff, got rid of a capped hock over night, that had already had 6 months of treatment/physio with no reduction in size at all. The vet was desperate to find out what was in the powder we used, mixed with vinegar, but I never found out!

we got some stuff off the vet for a capped hock that came from america, don't have a clue what it was called as the label was taken off, the vet came and did the first application then left us to do the rest, he came and checked every week to see how we were getting on and to check the skin for any abnormal reaction, they disappeared within weeks, not sure if it would work for splints, ask your vet if they know of anything

DO YOU THINK IT WOULD GET SWELLING DOWN ON A YOUNGSTERS KNEES

An old horseman in this area always swore by lemon on splints. He would bandage a slice over the splint.
I have varied this with using pure lemon juice on cotton wool, then bandaging it, mush easier.
Magnetic boots also seem to work well on new lumps/bumps.
For capped hocks I was recommended clay and vinegar, I passed some onto somebody else who also swore by it. Getting hold of the clay was easy here in Cornwall when it was mined here. An alternative that was suggested was using Aintree Plast.
Also good for splints, lumps and bumps is a cold laser.

hi shp yes ive had lots of youngsters come to me with this problem you are better off leaving well alone , sometimes if the animal has been show as a baby then in order to get them in ''show'' condition they are fed too higher protien diet (so watch for that ) other wise they will come right bye themselves .x x good luck ( and dont worry !)

used it , expensive , total waste of money !!! I know this is an older thread, but it comes up very early in Google results so I figured I would step up to defend a product I have over 30 years of experience using. I've used splintex gold since the 80s without any complications. The stable I trained at used it and I stuck with it. I really like that it doesn't cause blistering or additional injury to the animal in order to treat the splint. It seems to be a relatively painless treatment. I also like that the ingredients are pharmaceutical grade where possible (I asked) and it has a pleasant smell. I've used it with some success on splints that had been unsuccessfully fired (after healing). Note that this is an off label use and it is not guaranteed to work on splints that have already been fired. If you are treating a fresh splint within the first 30 days of manifestation splintex SILVER should be used. The directions do have to be followed exactly. It also only has a maximum 2-year shelf life and has the expiration month and year stamped on the bottom. After 2 years it will lose potency. I only purchase directly from the manufacturer (Horse Systems INC) and they offer a no questions asked money back guarantee for the purchase price or replacement if there is ever an issue with a bottle purchased directly. It is one of those amazing products invented and produced by a small family owned company (father and daughter team). Who has
