Hi there, advice please.... We have a 6 year old 122 cm (yes, small) pure bred Section C worker and would like to know which classes and qualifiers she would be eligible for? Also what is she NOT eligible for! Thank you.

I did HOYS WHP classes on a small C, I just put her in the suitable height category, she was 12.3hh.

Thank you for that. We are based in Ireland so would appreciate advice on which societies to join, which type of qualifier, etc. What is Heritage? Sorry, but years out of date and need pointing in right direction about membership, names of classes etc. For example in HOYS are the Welsh As in one Worker class under 122cm or is it open to any pure breed of right height?

For all M&M classes they are split according to height not breed, so you would enter the n/e 122cm class. If you want to do qualifiers for RIHS and HOYS you need to register with NPS for RIHS and you can be part of any society for the HOYS qualifiers I think, so you can just join NPS for these or if you want to compete at other society championships you will have to join the relevant society. I imagine you'd be eligible for all heritage (which is just M&M) classes from novice upwards until you have won or qualified at certain events, but these tend to change depending on the society you're competing under.

Just to add that as you are in Ireland - it would be worth reading the HOYS rules regarding measurement - they are slightly different for you You can register with a society with an IPS height certificate (if required) but I believe that if you qualify you must submit a JMB height certificate before the final

Cs are classified as large native breeds whatever their actual height so not eligible for I think M&M LR or FR.

Thank you for the comment re M & M First Ridden and Lead Rein and Section Cs being classified as large breed. Anyone point me towards the ruling in print - which Association/Society would govern that? Appreciate all the comments.

Open Mountain & Moorland Lead Rein, Mare or Gelding, 4 year old & over, not exceeding 122cms. Registered in their approved Pure Breed Society Stud Books of Shetland, Dartmoor, Exmoor, New Forest and Welsh Section A or B. To be led by an attendant and shown in a snaffle bridle. Lead Rein to be attached to the noseband only. Rider not to have attained their 9th birthday before 1st January in the current year. S08 P(UK) BRINETON M&M FIRST RIDDEN CHAMPIONSHIP Open Mountain & Moorland, Mare or Gelding, 4 year old & over, not exceeding 128cms. Registered in their approved Pure Breed Society Stud Books of Dartmoor, Exmoor, New Forest, Shetland, Welsh Section A or B. To be shown in any suitable bridle. Rider not to have attained their 12th birthday Taken from ponies uk rulebook. I'm not sure why a New Forest is classed as a large breed and is eligible but not a section C. Someone on here will know the answer to that

There are welsh sections C's that do the 122cm m&m workers in the uk, a few have qualified for hoys in that section

comanchediva it comes from the WPCS Council. I was on the now defunct Advisory Committee and was asked by a WPCs member and breeder to bring it up in one of our meetings. They just don't don't want Cs doing FR and LR even if small enough, I can't see why not either, I'm sure the facility to do so would not encourage breeders to breed them small enough on purpose, but I'm sure they can't stop them doing WHP which is divided only by height of pony.
