During a programme tonight on ITV it said that it cost on average £40 a week to keep a dog. I spend £1 on an ox liver for mine each week and that is it. He must be sooo deprived. What am I supposed to spend the other £39 on?

They add in things like a years insurance, average vet bills for things like worming, fleaing, innoculations, grooming, stuff like that. But I don't spend anywhere near that, probably struggle to make it add up to a tenner a week, but then mine does have to go for grooming about every six weeks as she doesn't shed any hair, and that costs £20 a time.
Don't forget 'normal' type folk go on a couple of foreign holidays a year and send rover to the boarding kennels, that probably costs a bit!

Think my pooch must consider he is very neglected. He is not insured, doesn't know what a vet is after 8 years of life, has never been wormed, never had fleas or an innoculation and would resent being sent to a beauty parlour as he likes to maintain his hard man image. As for going boarding there is no chance he will ever get a paid holiday. And he is fed on kitchen scraps so he costs nothing. Poor lad is feeling quite deprived !!!

LOL, my dog isn't insured either but does have her own bank account!! We put £15 a month in there on a direct debit, to cover vet bills etc, and if it's not needed then it's earning interest. I just like to know that if a big vet bill came along I'd be able to pay it.
He's very lucky not to get fleas, but I do think he ought to be wormed. Jabs are a matter for debate but I'd never forgive myself if she caught something that could have been prevented. But then I'm a bit of a softie.

i have two fairly large girls, ones a doderman and the other is half rotti, quarter dobi and quater alsation, they cost about £30 a MONTH to feed, never go for grooming, if i ever go away for a weekend they get fostered out to family, have claws cut approx every 3 months at £4 each, not insured, are wormed and frontlined for fleas[ through the summer] . so they probably feel neglected not having that much weekly spent on them lol
