I've tried on both the CO Wellington, the H2000 and the showjumper. The H2000 looks terrible on me (I've a big head!). The other two look ok but obviously are very different styles. I think the Wellington is the most flattering - but probably not a very good one for showing as its low profine with that padding on the back?
I will have to drive about 2 hours to try on the Fian - not sure I want to do it. Any advice?

The Fian is quite a shallow hat compared to the Fiona & h2000 if that helps so maybe it would look ok on if the Wellington & showjumper ones look ok as they are also both shallower hats than the Fiona & h2000. Hope that helps.

A couple of months ago, my daughter went from Fiona to Fian and finds the Fian neater and prefers it to the Fiona .. she is 6 and 7/8ths
Hope that helps .. you just have to try these hats on as what suits one person doesn't suit another as people's head shapes vary .. if no stockist near to you there is always the option of ordering on line and you can return hat unused if it does not suit

It looked like a pee pot sat on her head!! We then tried the H2000 and thought that was much neater. Like you say horses for courses.

I tried the Fian at RI and absolutely hated it, looked awful on me even the guy on the stand said it didn't suit me! I'm going to try a Hampton on as that seems the closest look to the Fiona from what I've seen.

We are going with the H2000 for next year.

Ok so mixed reviews. Thanks everyone, I think I might try the Fian and if it doesn't suit send it back and order the Wellington.

Apparently the Fian hasn't been approved for next year so maybe hold off just in case

It would be fantastic if manufacturers could let us know what will be compliant and available for next year so we can get organised! Also definite confirmation from the various societies about what will be acceptable. I get the feeling that nothing is yet totally decided, which is all very well, but we need a bit of notice!

The Fian carries the new VGI certification and is also certified to ASTM F1163-15 so meets current EU and UK safety standards for the foreseeable future
Re. BS EN 1384 ... hats that carry this mark ONLY will no longer be able to be used for competition after 2016
Hats that carry both the old BS EN 1384 AND PAS 015 and are kite marked and CE marked may continue to be used in competition after 2016

My Fian arrived this morning and is so perfect! Fits like a dream and is a lovely shape on me too.
I really hope that it meets safety requirements, its advertised as the replacement of the Fiona to meet standards.

I was also told the Fian was a temporary 'fix' to the current standards and that it may not be legal after next year.
Don't know how that works but it's bad PR on CO side if this is the case.

Yes, Phillipa, I had heard that too. The point I was trying to make was that manufacturers would do well to list their products and then a simple table showing the 'coding' and when this will be compliant and during what time period. I am pretty sure this would help sell more products and be a really good service to consumers! That said, I am still not clear on which regulations will be applied by which governing bodies either. I guess I could do a lot of research, but again, it would be a nice service to us if this information could be made very clear too.

Will we need to change hats now if we aren't in the EU?

Problem is, we are STILL in the EU .. the UK government has not instigated exit proceedings yet

Yes Philippa, having spent a small fortune on a Patey Corne, just months before the changes were announced and then my horse was out of action, I've only worn the hat about a dozen times. I can use it for BD this year, but then will need to buy another hat. Needless to say, I'll be hanging on until I really have to.

I've just read an article on H&H announcing a 'Hunter' hat made by Charles Owen for the Quorn hunt. It's £250 but looks like it may be another option for showing depending on safety standards going forward. All it says in the blurb is that it meets the 'latest safety standards'.

Please be aware if purchasing online or mail order that you will not be able to return the hat if it does not fit, the distance selling act does not apply to hats and body protectors. It would be entirely at the vendors discretion. I have been through this ordeal myself and after lengthy negotiations with trading standards I just had to absorb the loss and sell it on privately.
