Yard Manager
Sellet Estate Stables at Stainton Nr Kendal is nestled in beautiful countryside and although very rural is only 8 minutes from junction 36 of the M6, and only 5 minutes from Oxenholme train station. The stables are current;y in traditional stone built and block built buildings. stables are of a good size and horses have year round turnout in paddocks surrounding the estate. facilities include a large rubber surfaced arena, horse walker, wash room with hot water wash and heat lamps. Sellet Estate is now looking for the correct candidate to come and take on the role of yard manager to lead and co-ordinate the busy show/ livery yard.
Excellent salary package for the right person dependant on experience.
40 hours per week as per rota (includes some weekends). 28 days holiday per annum.
As Yard Manager you will manage, lead and co-ordinate a team of staff to ensure a high standard of equine care for horses and ponies on site. As well as ensuring excellent relationships and communication with clients. Under the supervision of the owners.
We have a total of 24 stables and at present we have 16 full liveries and 5 DIY’s. You will be required to maintain all aspects of the full liveries care, preparation for competition, organise the yard and deal with the everyday management as well as work on the yard with the rest of the team mucking out stables and turning horses out and in. Schooling, including working with young horses, colts and stallions.
You will be required on some occasions to stay away competing, this is often on weekends. Whilst there you will be required to undertake all aspects of the horses care, as well as grooming in the ring, warming up/working in prior to classes. You may also get the opportunity to ride and compete our show horses.
An enthusiastic, experienced, hardworking and trustworthy person who can take sole charge is essential for this role. Must be a competent rider, able to ride horses to a top showing level and also prep them to the highest level for shows.
As part of your salary package you are able to keep one horse on full livery.
Requirements
You will be required to deal with all aspects of a busy livery/ show yard. A dedicated and hardworking attitude is a must to undertake this role. The staff are required to work as a team and therefore you must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with staff members to ensure a high standard of professionalism is maintained at all times.
