I have a yearling colt that I have had since March.
March/April I bought him a little foal turnout as he seemed to be quite sensitive to the rain. He has obviously outgrown this now but my dilemma is that I don't think I will be able to find him one for this winter!
He is too big for foal rugs, he is now almost 17 months old and about 14hh and very bum high but still all legs and hasn't started to fill out yet. Can you get rugs to fit weedy long yearlings as foal rugs seem to only go up to 5ft? And a normal pony rug will drown him depth wise.
Ideally I would like to leave him naked but he doesn't seem to grow much coat and even in the summer when its been wet I have had to bring him in to towel dry him off as hes been shivering, hes a bit of a princess it seems!
Any help or tips much appreciated.

Some of the cheaper range turnouts are well suited to gangly youngsters. Shires tempest, weatherbeeta saxon/genero, horseware amigo (although not as adjustable at the front), cosy pony - my yearling went straight from a foal rug to a cosy pony one.
If the surcingles are too long just twist them. I also make sure I use leg straps on youngsters to prevent them getting a scare by the rug slipping etc.

Awesome thank you so much ladies I will have a look! I was worried people would think I was wrapping him in cotton wool but the poor boy does feel the cold.
Thanks for the help xx

Mine would get rain scald if he wasn't rugged. He went into amigo pony rugs they are good for narrow fronts whilst they are growing.

Masta and amigo ive found to be the best for youngsters with no shoulders etc. ive never got on with cosy pony as they just seem to hang off the chest. I have all my ponies in amigo or Rambo, as they are good fits even on the babies.
