What really makes me angry is when a judge asks you to a 'set show' with say; one stride of walk, or a good gallop etc etc and you still end up with not a great mark, yet others that don't do it 'correct' or wrong leg/buck etc etc and they still get a good mark!! Another one is when the judge doesn't watch you, even if your horse/pony isn't their cup of tea, you still pay the same entry fee as everyone else, so please watch as so much hard work, time & money goes into these horses/ponies!! SORRY RANT OVER!!

I think most of us go through that. It's one of the things that really gets up my nose, if you set a show then for pity's sake penalise competiitors that don't do it to the letter, otherwise you are just making an arse out of yourself .

Totally agree this makes me cross as well! Our last HOYS qualifier I think the ride judge had lost the will to live it was her 7th class, perhaps she was desperate for her lunch however she didn't bother to watch the start or the end of shows, she was so obviously not interested. Without being biaised I know we did a foot perfect show and got 29! This pony has never had less that 39 for his show (and that was with a slight error) However when checking she gave the last 6 ponies 28 or 29 and they were not pulled in so just unlucky that she was so bored by then. Totally disrespectful the conformation judge on the other hand studied every pony in detail and watched them trot up and down to the end. Also agree with the set show comment - why ask for it if you have already made your mind up!

'Chloesmum' we had the pleasure of Chloe judging the ride section of our HOYS 13hh class at the summer champs, my daughter wasn't initially pulled in a huge class of 20 odd, our pony is only a baby, Chloe set a show which my daughter did and was over the moon to be rewarded with the joint highest ride mark! He wasn't the conf judges cup of tea but still made the final line up, please can you tell Chloe it made my daughters day to finally have a judge that sets a show and marks it accordingly

Thank you I will certainly tell her, not seen her yet as think she got home very late! Without sounding too much like a 'proud mummy' I can honestly say she is totally fair and straight and will reward shows accordingly and use her marks. I think when you have been there yourself you are only too aware of how it feels not to be judged fairly, all we ask as competitors is that respect, of course sometimes our ponies are not the judges type as you say but at least reward a show even if the pony is not your type. I know what Chloe loved was seeing several of her winners, crying with joy at winning she always says when she can't be thrilled even at her age with winning she will give up. Good Luck to you next season and glad your daughter ended on a high!

We hadn't been under Chloe before, she will most definitely be going in my good fair judges book! Our pony isn't the most typey as he's not totally matured yet but he's beyond his years in his way of going and attitude in our novice class he did a perfect show and the ride judge marked him low and told her in the ring best show but he's not my type, He doesn't have to be your marking his way of going! Typical he had top conf that day, So frustrating! But Taylor definitely ended on a high thanks to Chloe judging her show as it should be

Chloe is a very fair judge and judges exactly what she sees - not who she sees. However, some other judges give set shows and reward some with top ride marks that have not even been executed correctly yet, or pony goes round pinned to chest or nose almost on floor due to who they are/who is behind them. Seen it far too many times in hoys classes this year when other ponies have gone far better but with mere mortals on board/grooming etc. Time for an independent adjudicator outside the ring - all we ask for is fair but on many occasions this year it sadly has not been the case.

Agree with above, all I ask is to be fairly judged. I did 1 flat class at the champs, the judge had a set show, the pony pulled top fluffed it, but STILL got the best ride mark! Towards the end of the line the ride judge couldn't even be bothered to watch the start of most shows. It was disgraceful

But then I have to say after experiencing the hectic and long classes that were Equifest this year (our class was an hour and a half long) I have to say I'd probably find it hard to concentrate - and must admit they'd probably all blur in to one. I definitely think something needs restructuring in the way classes are allowed to get so big - not to mention it tipped it down. Our pony was the only one to stand still in the rain, whilst the others all turned their backs bar one, and we didn't place at all. I was a little narked at the judges comment. She's a youngster and I know that perhaps some of her green-ness showed through in the individual. But I didn't feel it warranted being unplaced.
