Looking at joining a society next year for the first time to do affiliated showing.
I'm based in West Yorkshire, which do people think would be best? I'm not overly bothered about hoys quals side of things more just affiliated showing.
I don't want to join and then not get the benefits of the membership.
I have a fell pony and do flat showing.

Depends if you want to do either of their championship shows. Im West Yorkshire and there are probably more BSPS than NPS shows around here. I only joined BSPS this year

I probably won't do championship show because of the distance and finding a groom to come with. It's more stepping up a level. I've done some classes but never as a member.

Why not look at NCPA if your not too fussed for the Champs as they are cheaper but still have the Pony of the Year to qualify for should you so wish to go?? There are lots of good shows round here that are up from local level but don't cost the earth through memberships.

Yes another vote for the NCPA and there's a Yorkshire Branch. We have a show on Sunday at Mill Lane, come along and meet us or have a go at showing - there's classes for everyone 😁

I've done all the agricultural shows this year placing at all Bar one and some are affiliated classes, so definitely ready to step up. Might have a look at ncpa. Think a lot of their shows are at Mill lane as well which isn't too far.

You can do any classes at the area shows without being a member, so unless you wanted to qualify for the society's championship show I honestly wouldn't join either, they are so expensive. We joined BSPS for the first time this year but only because our jockey thought our boy was ready for RI qualifiers, which he was.
Prior to that, we only joined NCPA and have done for several years. I've always found the benefits in terms of reduced entry fees for members to be much better than other societies. The Yorkshire branch hold their shows at Mill Lane and usually affiliate to BSPS for some classes anyway.
If you're in Yorkshire you're pretty accessible to the Lancashire branch shows at Myerscough as well as the spring show at South View and the show at Richmond in October. The championship show was at Warren Farm this year which was an excellent venue and in the NOrth!!! The standard was very high as well, we were very pleased with a 2nd in a large novice class.
By the way I have no interest in the society other than being a member, I've just always found the shows to be friendly and welcoming and Janet comes on here and is really helpful.
We've had a couple of c**p weeks at shows but I'm really looking forward to mill lane on Sunday x

Hi hazeysunshine - if I can help you any further on NCPA please either post on HG or email me at gensec@thencpa.co.uk Our membership has the added value of giving entry discounts to our members for example the show at Richmond EC on 1st October has online pre entries at £7 for members & £11 for non members There are quite a few other benefits but you can enter any of our shows without membership & even qualify for our Pony of the Year Show, but to get the most from the membership the earlier in the year you join the better. Hope this helps

I'd love to do countryside live but I'm not joining somewhere for one show. It's more that I don't have the money to go miles and miles for the championship, I'd love to do them but bills to pay. I really wanted to go to mill lane on Sunday but I'm busy grrr.
