Just for fun! As anyone who knows us or reads Chloe's H&H blog will know this is that time of year again! The run up to Olympia for the 'special one' aka Jacob and the OCD behaviour Chloe will go into re his coat whilst he will be as determined as ever to wreck his rugs! Today marked rug no 1! He gave me the 'it's not my fault' look ' I think I got itchy and then got caught in a tree'! as his NZ hung in tatters around his ample behind! So - how many can he wreck before Olympia and can we (well me) take it!

Have you tried a bib on a head collar. They prevent them reaching the rug to rip it. It's a rectangular piece of leather and you may have to have one made to fit. There is a saddler near Malton that I'm sure would know what you need she basically does racing requirements. Would save a lot of money.

Cut out the bottom of a small dustbin and attach it round his neck like one of those "collar of shame" dog plastic collar things. That would stop him, just keep him out of view though, not sure what the RSPCA would think but needs must. Colour code the bin though to his rug, could start a new trend .

Love it but knowing Jacob he would probably manage to attach himself to something with his 'collar' and destroy a tree or something. His favourite rubbing tree has been taken down in his small paddock as it died and for days now he has been snorting round it like a dragon! He even maanaged a canter and prance round it as it obviously looks different! Far too much energy for a fat little cob!

I'm going to be conservative and say two more making three wrecked rugs in total
I hope for the sake of your pocket that its no more!

It was so warm today down here did it survive today? I will go with 9 in total. Shame he lost his tree though, the rug he hung on it was very artistic

Ah no he still has those trees! They are in the woods so plenty more artistic opportunities! That was so funny as I was convinced someone had stolen the rug off his back as I couldn't find it anywhere. He has a little paddock in front of his stables which has a few orchard trees in and it was one of those he had managed to kill off, bearing in mind he can push through most things with his ample bum! He was a bit subdued today as he had a thicker rug on and it was hot as you say but luckily no damage. New rug going round today so we will see! Flute's HOYS rug is not going anywhere near him! Toaster I am with you hoping it won't be more than 3!

Having watched the wonderful Planet Earth last night couldn't help but see a resemblance in those grizzly bears shredding their coats rubbing on trees to a certain fat little cob I know!!!! Chloe has just brought him a lovely new rug - fatal I think!!

I remember Kemply, the fab cob that Robert Oliver had in the late 70's early 80's, they used to put a new zealand ( the old fashioned canvas variety ) over his other rugs to stop him from shredding them.

I was thinking about those marvellous canvas new Zealands the other day! Lesley - we have Iceman now and he is a kindred spirit with Jacob! Loves to scrath and rub and ALWAYS has at least one strap undone on his rug no matter whether he has been out for 10 mins or all day! We have gone through 2 rugs already , Bring back canvas new zealands!! The were almost indestructable! Andbody got one in a 5ft 9???!!

Well the results are published in Chloe's Horse & Hound blog which is now online. He does look rather pleased with himself I think! We did pretty well (think the grand total was 2) although he is rather bored now his stardom is all over and getting up to more mischief, particularly if mares are involved!! Luckily his son who we now have at home is proving to NOT have is daddy's sense of humour thank heavens and hopefully has just inherited his movement!
