Knowing this site is the font of knowledge on all things pony! - and taking my first foray in to affiliated ponies, unplaited ones at that (its way different to my experience in hunter weights and ladies side saddle!!) so I was hoping to pick some brains!
We have a very smart full up 122cm (LHC) Dartmoor.... daughter is 5yo, on lead rein with a view to going FY/FR in the longer term..... We are home produced amateurs.
Now who do we register with for all these area shows?! - NPS, BSPS, Ponies UK, Heritage, do you have to be a member to do area and champ shows?
What runs qualifiers for what? - and what memberships do I need?!
Please can someone also topline the pretty polly rules, amateur, home produced rules to me as I believe these cause most of the trouble in pony ranks.... I have hunters, qualified, compete and placed at HOYS/RIHS - we are totally HP and my day job is running a PR agency, but does this rule out PP for us?
Lastly, anyone want to lead said daughter ..... I look stupid in culottes!!!
Many thanks!!

LOL Perky! IMO decide which championship show you would like to attend & then join that society. If however you want to do LR at RIHS & HOYS qualifiers then if you only want to join one society it needs to be BSPS to cover both (plus obviously BSPS Championships) BSPS - you can enter any class except RIHS, HOYS & Blue Riband qualifiers, without being a member & have 7 days to join (humans & pony) if you are in the qualifying position & wish to take up the qualification NPS - you can enter without being a member but ONLY members can qualify, so need to do your membership before the show if you want to qualify for the Summer Champs (the winter classes have qualification cards handed out in the ring with full instructions on them regarding membership/entries etc) PUK - you don't need to be a member except for RIHS qualifiers (no LR) The FYFR classes tend to be unaffiliated, but there are "Tiny Tots" classes for BSPS "Pretty Polly" is the BSPS term for Home Produced - I believe the rules are being modified for 2017 so you will have to read them when they are published NPS require arm bands to denote HP status (but have no separate qualifying classes) Don't know whereabouts you live but NCPA have lots of classes for younger riders & even a dedicated Childrens' show in Yorkshire - please see www.thencpa.co.uk for further detailsor email gensec@thencpa.co.uk Hope this helps

Janet has superbly summarised the baffling world of showing and societies and as she rightly says you will need to decide what and where you want to aim for a great idea before joining every society which can be costly. I feel your pain re culottes!!! But you may want to hold fire on getting someone else to lead your daughter for you until the new Pretty Polly (BSPS Home produced) rules are published as I believe they are being 'tightened'you could find yourself falling foul if you get someone else to lead even if they are also home produced as I believe they will need to be immediate family. How about a nice skirt!!!! More importantly have great fun and enjoy your showing, what lovely times with a young daughter.

Re the culottes, I also look ridiculous in them but I went to Le Beau Cheval and she made me some that are slimmer in the leg and they look fine. I also have a LBC navy skirt which looks lovely too.

The M&M world is a minefield, so many societies offer so many different things.. I've been used to coloureds and its so much easier lol. Janet has pretty much summed everything up, I would look at where you want to qualify for and take it from there. BSPS will cover you for RIHS and HOYS, slightly more on the expensive side for a society but you do get the perk of being able to enter into both HOYS and RIHS, plus their championship shows. There are also classes at RIHS that are just for home produced, these are the pretty polly classes, so keep an eye out for these ones. Good luck and hope you have fun out together

Equifest is easy. You don't have to be a member. We do l/r with our shetland and agree it is a minefield and very expensive. I agree join the society that best suits what you are aiming for. As regards outfit , my daughter does the leading. I am far to old and fat to get round a ring. Would need oxygen. If it helps I have a spare outfit, jacket and matching leaders jacket you can borrow. All you need is a navy skirt. Outfit would match Dartie perfectly. We never use it in lovely condition.

Brilliant - thanks everyone. I think BSPS is the route for us as I can run the pony alongside my hunter!
