I have a problem in that my son is unwell in Switzerland and I am going to go over there for quite a few months. My grandson is having a leg lengthening operation, 14 December, due to a broken leg 4 years ago which has left his leg 4cm shorter and he will be out of work/riding for the next 6 months. We have a beautiful Hanoverian mare 15.2/16hh that is an absolute treasure, she is fabulous to handle and is a super person, a real school mistress and is 12 years old! Ideally I need to loan her out for hacking only due to a previous problem with collateral ligaments! She can no longer do schooling work or jumping and she is currently sound and I want to keep her that way! Cantering on the straight is also ok. How can you help me? Do you know anyone who would treasure this mare as we treasure her? I don't want to advertise her in the usual way, I would like wom referrals if possible and must be super reliable people. We have videos and pictures for anyone interested. Ladies & Gents, your help would be greatly appreciated MODERATORS - PLEASE DON'T PUT THIS REQUEST FOR HELP IN THE FOR LOAN SECTION - THANKS

Have let them have your advert and where you live. They may feel it's too far, we are near Thirsk , North Yorkshire.

Quick update: My grandson's operation was a success! Just a long rehab of about 6 months (if lucky) but could be up to 12 months. Always looking on the positive side though and he's made a really good recovery. Back home on crutches, can't be weight bearing for 2 months and the physio starts in 2 weeks. Haven't found a loan home for our mare but granddaughter managing quite well with help from other liveries. Thanks everyone for your help and support it is much appreciated.

kateanne0, so pleased to hear that your Grandson's operation went well. Also so good that the other people on the yard are helping at a time of need. See not all horsey people are horrid!
Good luck with the physio and have a happy christmas x

Another update. We have found a loan home for our beautiful mare! We checked out the accommodation, listed our requirements for her and she's gone on an 8 week trial period. Hopefully she settles well and the older lady owner finds her to be just what she wanted for light hacking and low level dressage. Grandchildren delivered her on Sunday last and left with a lot of heartache She will be companion to an older horse and hopefully give lots of pleasure to the lady loaner. She's stabled 'at home' and it seems that we have struck gold! Fingers crossed for the future.

How lovely kateanne0, I do hope this is the start of the end of your problems x Thank you for updating us. Thank you gillwales! Yes, everything seems to be slotting into place now. Grandsons leg has stretched 2mm only another 38mm to go! LOL But he's made an amazing post op recovery . My son is responding to the medication, a small blip last week Friday but back on track again this week. I'm very hopeful for him. He's eating better, sleeping better most nights and has gone back to work. We drove back to the UK just before Christmas for a long weekend to pick up my little Jack Russell. She frets when I'm not at home, very easy to get all the documentation done and we used the Euro Shuttle, it's amazing! She's really helping get my son out and about; he is going for long walks with her twice a day at weekends and interacting with other dog walkers, so there is light on the socialising side of the illness as well. So no complaints from me. We both know its going to take time for him to get back to 'normal' but we are on the winning edge at the moment . Grateful thanks to the Horse Gossipers for their support

Sounds like things are really looking up - great to hear such good news x Update on our beautiful, much loved mare, that went on loan back end of last year due to family circumstances. Her loaner is extremely happy with her and she has settled really well with the retired older mare. Our mare has proved to be everything we said she was and has been offered a permanent home. We have retained ownership of her (just in case) but the lady loaner has a long history of keeping her horses at home for life, hence the older retired mare. Thank you all for your support it has been much appreciated. P.S. Grandsons leg healing well and it is now weight bearing and the new bone is granulating well. Still a lot of intensive physiotherapy needed to stretch the ligaments and tendons but happily on the road to full recovery. I'm still out of the UK but my son is on the road to recovery and has started socialising again.
