I've had a bad experience with paypal and thought it was worth sharing so people are aware.
I sold a saddle on preloved, sent the seller several pictures including 3 with a tape measure against it, the saddle was the wrong width but the buyer said she had checked with her saddler and the saddle was adjustable (I said I didn't know) buyer paid using paypal. Saddle was received and buyer sent me an email saying she was really, pleased it was immaculate and as described. The next day she emailed and said it didn't fit and wasn't wide enough and couldn't be adjusted, did not request her money back. A few days later a dispute was lodged on paypal against me saying the saddle was "significantly not as described". I replied to the dispute on paypal copying all correspondence showing the buyer's enquiries and the email saying it was as described. But paypal have still found in the buyer's favour and now I have to refund all the money, leaving me out of pocket having funded the postage costs (like a fool I even paid a premium for next day Saturday delivery).
I won't sell on ebay or via paypal now, as it seems that the buyer is completely covered and can decide to return an item if it does not fit even if it is as described.

Similar happened to me some years ago via eBay with payment by Paypal ... sent a brand new, unused, boxed pair of top quality black leather show riding boots to winner of eBay auction, lots of photos and full description .. buyer had them for ten days before deciding they weren't what she wanted and a case was opened on eBay which was found in favour of buyer despite no wrong doing by me .. buyer had time period to return boots to me, I received them on the very last day of that return period and they had been used and ridden in, scuffs to leather toes and soles, boots dirty with lots of mud and straw, I was disgusted .. how was I supposed to sell them on as brand new in that state? Took a great loss and I hadn't done anything wrong .. accurately listed and photographed. Vowed never to sell anything of significant value on eBay ever again, the seller has no voice and is totally ignored!

Also always send items recorded as if not the buyer just says item not received and gets money back regardless. There are lots of dodgy people out there .

Paypal really is biased towards the buyer. Having said that, I have in the past found that by phoning up once the dispute is at a stage where they have to make a judgement, you get further as a seller than just by sending copies of correspondence.
A friend of mine sold a good saddle and had it returned with a broken tree. I would always take photos of serial numbers as well as the condition of the item on the day you post it - if you've had it advertised for a little while, it could be claimed that the photos are old and not an accurate representation.
Sent from my SM-A300FU using proboards

I won't sell on ebay or via paypal now, as it seems that the buyer is completely covered and can decide to return an item if it does not fit even if it is as described. Seen both sides of this. Had one bad experience selling on e bay where it cost me despite being completely in the right, however only £35 so wasn't too bad. Agree paypal side 100% with the buyer. However bought a bridle through Preloved which was supposed to have a 1.5inch noseband, even e mailed the seller asking her to confirm the width which she did, explaining it needed to be 1.5inch wide or it was of no use. Then like the trusting idiot I am paid through BACS transfer only to find when the bridle arrived it was 1.25inch wide very clearly. E mailed the seller who did not respond. E mailed again quite a strong e mail, and was made to feel as though I was at fault. She said she was selling for a friend, and was out of the country, ill relative etc etc. She would refund me on her return etc etc. Of course she did not. I would never pay for anything again unless it was through paypal, felt completely cheated. Of course I have the bridle but I have never used it and it will cost me to sell it. So there are 2 sides to it, it all depends on the honesty of the person I am afraid.
