Got a fairly new pony who is microchipped, but the chip is not registered anywhere, vet has checked it and was recorded on the passport correctly. Neither did I get any documentation regarding the chip. I need to register the pony's chip into my name on a database but need some advice. Has anyone had any experience of how to go about this. To make matters worse the post office has lost the pony's passport which I sent for change of ownership, have a photocopy of the passport but to compound it the passport was issued by Oakdale Meats NI Ltd who have now been taken over. Been advised just to obtain a replacement passport, there were no silhouette markings completed so it is a vet job - happy to get a new passport but the chip does need sorting. Talk about it never rains but it pours! Help please.

Did you copy the vaccination pages for your pony? If so, backtrack on the vets to see which vet administered the chip. If you can find out which vet it was they might have a record of which register it belongs to. May help you get a bit more detail than you have now-
You could also try backtracking previous owners for the same info.
Tedious job, good luck.
Have a quick look on the internet maybe some of the registers have a section where you can input the microchip number to find the owner of the pet. This may work for you.

Have tried the internet checking registers, including europenet, without any luck, all say the microchip is not active/registered. The original passport is only from 2016 and was marked as not for human consumption so suspect it was a replacement as this is what the PIOs do. There is no bar code on it, just the number of the chip, so suspect the number has been taken from the vet's paddle when the first inoculation was done, not from any documentation. I will not get any previous owners, I believe this was a travellers' pony and cannot go down this road. I know a lot of chips were inserted and were not registered and so there must be a way of getting it registered. I would prefer to use Petlog but suspect they only register their own chips. Any thoughts, I am sure other people have been in this situation.

Ah, yes, I had this with a pony from Ireland. As far as I know, all chips are traceable to the original issuer via the first few digits in the number sequence. I only found this out because I phoned Petlog to ask if I could transfer the chip to my ownership details, and they told me that it wasn't one of their chips and that each issuer can only deal with its own chips, BUT they were able to tell me which company had issued the chip (I think the good organisations keep details of all chip issuers exactly for this reason), and I was then able to contact the right organisation and get the chip re-registered in my name, for a small fee. No need to provide the passport, no need to contact prior owner, in fact I seem to remember that there is some process by which when you have submitted your application the chip issuer contacts the person who originally registered the chip, if indeed they did so, and they give them a time frame in which to come forward and if they don't come forward then they just take your word for it, without any proof of change of ownership. If the chip has never been registered by the original owner, they can deal with that for you too, but you need to find the right issuing organisation by phoning and asking for help from one of the reputable issuers. The online checking won't tell you that.
Hope that is clear. If not, am happy to answer any questions from the best I can remember.

Haven't completely read other responses but it's very common (unfortunately) for equine microchips not to be registered and to just have the sticker in the passport. Petlog have handed over the vast majority of equine chips to Anibase. Print off the 'new registration' pages from the Anibase website and fill in as much as you can and post it with a cover letter. I have been asked to pay a charge for this before but have usually managed to get it done foc.

Been on to Petlog and they have told me it is a foreign chip, and they are happy to register it. Couldn't actually find the company that it relates to. Doesn't help that I also need a replacement passport, (original lost by the post office and the Irish company who were the PIO have been sold this year,) so doing that first. Vet booked for Monday to complete the passport form. What a performance. The pony is worth it though, she is a little star. Everything needs to be sorted though as she will need a JMB certificate for CHAPS. Glad to say there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel now.

Did you have any luck sorting your ponies passport out? I've just bought one with an Oakdale (NI) issued passport but they don't seem to be contactable any more so I'm a bit stuck as to what to do.

Try horse sport ireland and see if they've taken over the passports :-)
