So as long as there are snowdrops and daffodils rising I feel that spring is nearly here (optimistic outlook). Also have ponies and cobs loosing the fluffy winter coat which is always good. Even had the odd day turned out with a rug on..... I have regretted that when we've been scrapping winter mud off them! We've having an early start this year, hopefully going to be ready to rock and roll in march, only because we're giving the juniors large breeds a bash as have a jockey, the novice may need a bit longer but I can't believe I have March dates in the diary!! So when do you aim to get going again for the season?

We are on a roll now and having had pony out & worked before school today we are well on our way. Clinic tomorrow then looking to start with a couple of shows in a week or 2.
Light mornings are always key for me. I can be up, mucked out, ponies exercised and home before Maisie has had her breakfast.

Not sure that we are ready but we have done 2 winter shows! My first was on Saturday and I am not sure that I had got back into the swing, in fact Chloe's long boots had cobwebs in them!! We have several novices to bring out so have to start somewhere, luckily they were all very good so we felt very encouraged. In terms of 'ready' for proper season we are bringing Bam home from her winter holidays today and Jacob won't appear until Windsor! Once I see a bit of sun I begin to feel excited!! and I know Chloe would agree with Phillipa - lighter mornings are the key.

I have given up showing now as my jockey is now mum to gorgeous 2 week old baby! I know I'm going to miss it terribly and as the days get longer (and better) I still feel the excitement building! No doubt I will find myself at some shows as a spectator and watch all the updates with interest.
Good luck to everyone!

Shows always need help & you do get to get an "inside" view of a class!

I would agree with Janet, Gaynor - I love stewarding, great fun and you get to spend all day looking at ponies, and get fed as a bonus!

GaynorStones - Janet and Lucynlizzysmum got in ahead of me!!! Not sure what part of the country you are in but if you are in the South East we would welcome you with open arms, a lovely lunch and endless supply of tea/coffee if you would like to steward for us!!! It is a lovely way to still be involved and guess what that 2 week old baby no doubt will soon be a lead rein jockey!!! Congratulations to them.

I'm moving back to Derbyshire (retired one of my ponies so taking him with me) I had already thought of stewarding so no doubt I will get "my fix" that way

MIne are ready to go when their respective producers say so, I just roll up and watch if I can! Already been to watch the A doing arena eventing, a new format for me, the ridden D has done one autumn show and the IH yearling won't be ready early as not born until a sensible time of the year! When I did them myself I never reckoned on taking yearlings out until they were actually 12 months old.

LOL - we never stopped as pony and daughter are a new combination so they need the mileage! I can happily say though that they are coming along nicely and Windsor is looking a possibility!
However, I have also found out that my daughter has had a growth spurt! New jods, shirts, jackets and back protector ordered! Phew! If anyone out there has any jods suitable for a taller 11 year old please shout!! Spares are always useful!
