Gutted you are not having Riding Pony Breeding Classes, we have not been to you show for a couple of years this was due to changing the date of your show and it clashing with another shows date. I appreciate that entries in the Pony Breeding Classes are poor but if shows don't keep the classes on then eventually there will be no shop window for breeders and you will end up with no youngstock coming through for Ridden Ponies. I hope you will reconsider and reinstate the classes in 2018. NPS Area 4 did offer you a qualifying round for their Northern Breeders Championship which you did not take up this was for both Pony Breeding and In Hand M & M Ponies.
I wholeheartedly agree with this.
Annually, we at the Border Union Ag Soc. dutifully affiliate to the NPS and continue with the classes. Ok, we have had to amalgamate, ie: all RP classes are 'up to 148cm (14.2hh)' as opposed to splitting the heights as in the 'good old days', but at least the classes are available and obviously Qualify for the NPS Championship Show Finals, with the prestigious "NPS Silver Medal Rosette" on offer to our Champion or Reserve, if current NPS Members.
As Chris says here,
please consider re-instating the RP/HP Breeding Section in 2018. In the light of NPS Area 4 offering a qualifying round to their much sought after Northern Breeders Championship, that seems a super offer and one well worth consideration.
Incidentally, the RP/HP Judges' Panel is well equipped with judges. Including those such as myself who reside not a million miles from the Carlisle district - and can multi-task.
Whilst I have judged M&M Breeding, M&M WHP & Plaited WHP both on the 'old' showground and, more recently on the Racecourse (Lou, as you'll recall, since you most proficiently stewarded with me for many hours a couple of years ago!) I have
never been invited for the RP/HP Breeding section. Yet, I'm only 60-70 miles away . . .
Indeed, if the timetable & dates allowed, I could multi-task even more, by showing sheep in the am, then judging the classes! Unfortunately with this recent changing of Cumberland Co. dates, it hasn't even been possible to bring sheep in the last few years (since lifting the Suffolk Championship in 2011!) due to clashing of dates (unfortunately your show preceded our Breed Club Show last year; I am Secretary). Obviously, movement licences also preclude. Now that Cumberland Co. has yet again moved dates, this is still an issue, as we compulsorily travel to the RHAS the following Wednesday.
Back to the plot - Lou - do please try to persuade your Committee to consider re-instating Riding Pony Breeding for 2018. And, to look at dates with regard to movement restrictions for Livestock to the big shows. Which would include RHAS & GYS.
It worked well, until your Show moved into June!
Best regards, C xx
