We are looking for a newer chassis for our 7.5 ton horsebox currently on a r reg Iveco cargo, what chassis do you all recommend? We were looking for a Iveco eurocargo but have been told newer ones rot for fun and been advised to go for daf or man, any advice appreciated

I can't advise which one to have but Ours is built on a 58 plate Daf chassis with automatic 5 gear gear box, we didn't have much choice on cab chassis from the builders and wish we had looked much more into it....hindesight is a wonderful thing! I absolutely love my box, it's my pride and joy but i find the automatic gear box very sluggish. It's slow to respond in pull out situations and even in crawler the reverse is all or nothing making tight space reversing a bit of a pain. I thought it was me as the only other wagon I had drove was to take my class 2 and that was a six wheeler Scania with a rediculous amount of gears but having asked numerous delivery drivers that come to work who drive the exact same model they all say they hate them. My only advise is to make sure you have it throughly looked over which I'm sure you will. we have had no end of mechanical problems with it and they cost a fortune. At one point I can honestly say that as much as I love it I would have been happy to never see it again, I lost all faith in it. Thankfully all sorted now.....touch wood. I'd be interested to know how you go on as we have often wondered if we could put it on a different chassis and have no idea how you would go about it x

Make sure that whatever you go for is similar in size to your current cab, height & depth or you may find you need to start chopping your new cab or your box body or if you get one thats smaller you will have to fill in sections which wont look the best.
We swapped a body onto a newer chassis and although we thought we had done our homework ended up chopping 16 inches off our luton height, fortunately it was a massive luton so actually didnt affect anything but it could well have done if it had been a shallow luton to start with.

Why dont you contact an Iveco dealership and chat them up! ;-)
They dont really have anything to loose as you wont be buying a new one from them but they might give you some advice on older. Or what about one of the Iveco forums?
