Need a new Stubben string girth for my slimmed-down cob but will need to buy on line. Cannot remember what size my old one is so can someone tell me are they measured extreme edge of the buckle to extreme edge, or measured from where the buckle meets the string to the other end where the string meets the buckle. Would be much easier if I could just take it and get a smaller one, but regretfully nobody local sells them and I am a great fan. Thanks.

Girths are usually measured from the very end of the buckle to the very end of the other buckle. They can stretch over time so may not measure an exact girth size but as a guide, holes in saddle girth straps are usually an inch apart so a girth of 2" smaller will go to one hole lower on each side etc.

Yes, I remember them being measured buckle end to buckle end too. Haven't seen one for years now, the standard girth when I was a child, I can remember now scrubbing them with soapy water to clean them.

What has thrown me when I measured it is that mine is actually 47" and I was expecting it to be an even number, but this is the norm for Stubben as they measure in cm. Thanks for your help I can now go ahead and purchase a new one. They are super girths, not at all like the old ones of my youth - and obviously yours. I remember scrubbing string girths, and also whitening the double web girths with that liquid you whitened tennis pumps with. Ah such were the days!
