My pony caught herself on a gate and has a deep puncture wound in her shoulder. The vet stitched it but because of where it is they did very little and had to come out. I am washing it and applying cream. The vet thinks it will scar. Does anyone have any tips or treatments you have used to reduce or minimize scaring? We do showing and I would really like to get the best recovery possible.
Thanks

We used manuka honey to start with along with botanica wash and moisturiser on our coloured. Finally in the final stages of healing we used uddermint (slightly awkward as she used to try to lick her chest with both the honey and the uddermint!!) She had a nasty infected cut on her chest and it has healed cleanly with no scarring - I have not tried on a puncture wound>.

I had one who had been bitten and ended up sloughing the skin off an area of his ribs the size of a man's spread hand - not deep though. I thought it would never heal, but it did without a trace left. I was given some udder cream, and surrounded it with anti-fly cream and the result was miraculous.

We have had great success with Camrosa on a wound that wouldn't heal.

Definitely Manuka Honey stops scabbing and heals brilliantly.

For future reference when stitching in a "moving" area make certain your Vet puts elastic stiches in or they tend to burst

Bio oil helps with human scarring.

our pony gashed himself under his elbow joint last summer and it was a massive cut/hole that i thought was bound to scar but it didn't, ponies are amazing! hopefully it will disappear but there are so many products you can use as a cover up it shouldn't make any difference to showing.

If a stitch is not elastic then it tends to burst if on a moving area. If a cut is on an area which can be bandaged then apply a pressure bandage with plenty of padding. This will avoid granulation and keep scaring to a minimum . However it is vital to keep a wound clean.
