Thank you Janet & all the team. Great show and so well organised. We've just got home after a very long but successful day. So proud of Maisie & Cosford Charelle. 5th SP LR 1st Registered non M&M mini Reserve Champion Chairmans cup. 2 lovely sashes a plaque and a fab golden rosette as a golden ticket qualifier. One very tired but happy 6yr old. Well done Team Maisie , and everyone else who attended on Sunday . I spent a lovely day stewarding in the M+M ring and I have to say , from where I was standing anyway , what a lovely bunch of competitors we had forward - friendly , polite , cooperative and no grumbling !The Novice classes in particular were noteworthy I felt , with competitors supporting and encouraging each other through the inevitable wobbly moments and a general atmosphere of good humoured banter and comararderie in the line up . It was wonderful to see so many smiley faces and a number of the judges in my ring commented on it too ! Showing as it should be .

We had a lovely day too with my hairy youngster. Absolutely agree with the atmosphere and a cracking show. My first time at Warren Farm having been to poys before at Rodbaston and a definite improvement.
My only criticism from a first timer there was that a map/ring layout in the schedule would be helpful and also that it wasn't very clear in the schedule where the in-hand championships would be and after what classes they would run. It said on a surface but didn't know which ring and when until announced and couldn't hear the tannoy from the box due to the wind so had to do a lot of waiting around in the wind and rain by the ring to find out.
It was a lovely show though as all ncpa shows are.
Phillipa - I almost met you lol! I recall hearing you spelling your pony's name to the photographer but didn't realise who it was until I saw the same name on your post. Well done to you and Maisie for your results.

Glad you had a good day, I really like Warren Farm as a venue even though it was 10 degrees colder than it has been at home lol. We haven't done POY since the early 2000's when we had the in hand stallions out and we were at Somerford Park but it's firmly on our calendar for the future.

Sent from my SM-A300FU using proboards sjw87 very useful feedback Unfortunately we cannot print the ring layout in the schedule as this cannot be finalised at this time in the year (Ring 6 location was only finalised on Saturday pm during set up!) I really don't see how we can improve the schedule instructions regarding the In Hand Championships? The running order is on the timetable & I have copied the schedule instructions - but if you can think of something to help please let me have your ideas to incorporate for 2018, we are always keen to have any issues raised & hopefully resolved! Not before 12.00noon on all weather surface In Hand Championships To be kindly judged by: Mrs. E. Mansfield-Parnell Arthur Smith Broodmare & Foal Championship open to all highest placed broodmares & foals. Trophies: The Arthur Smith Breeders Award Trophy to the Champion Broodmare The Pickmere Stud Trophy to the Champion Foal Youngstock Championship open to all winners of youngstock classes. Adult Championship open to all winners of adult classes. Trophy: The Mary Dodd Memorial Trophy to the Champion Champion and reserve champion rosettes to be awarded. THE TEAM WOOD PRESIDENT’S CUP To be kindly judged by Mrs. E. Mansfield-Parnell Finalist Rosettes to all competitors Champion to receive a sash and £50, and Reserve Champion a sash and £25 Trophy: The President’s Cup to the Champion. THE GOLDEN TICKET IN- HAND PRELIMS. All Golden Ticket holders will be judged in the relevant preliminary class. The top three in each class will go forward to the final etc...... There is only one all weather surface & we cannot begin them until all the I/H rings have been completed hence simply having a "not before" time. Regarding the tannoy to the far car parking - unfortunately the weather on the day appeared to have affected this set of speakers & despite the best regular efforts from the Warren Farm team, they only worked VERY sporadically & we do appreciate how difficult this made things for competitors, but it was beyond our control Glad you enjoyed you day though despite the miserable weather!

PS Apologies for delay in responding - my new grandson arrived at 8pm on Saturday night, and eldest granddaughter was first day at school this morning, so I have not been on the computer my usual amount!

Thank you for your reply.
Firstly, huge congratulations for the arrival of the new addition. I hope mum and baby are doing well and that your granddaughter has a good first day at school.
Thank you for not taking my comments as a criticism and simply as a suggestion. As I said, the show was a lovely day.
Now I've been and understand the running order, I wouldn't have an issue in the future. It's more for a first timer as it wasn't clear which classes would have to finish before the champs could start.
Now knowing that you aren't able to finalise ring layout until last minute, I can appreciate that it would be difficult to change the schedule but maybe a sign up in the secretary office/by the ring and announcements during the morning to clarify which class in which ring the championships will follow? I also don't think some people realised that they were eligible for the mare&foal/youngstock/adult championships on the surface as well as the ring championships so maybe making that clearer would help? I know it says in the section of the schedule copied above but it wasn't mentioned in the class listings themselves so a lot of people didn't look beyond the classes/championship in their respective ring.
In terms of the tannoy, I can absolutely appreciate that the weather and technical issues were at fault so there really isn't anything you could do about that.
I will definitely be back next year though and thanks again for a lovely show x

sjw87 - the Brood mare champs were a new addition this year as we no longer run the Arthur Smith Breeders points awards at the AGM due to the difficulties with so many prefixes not actually belonging to breeders these days (merely added to associate the animal with a particular equine enterprise, breaking yard etc) & actually tracing breeders who are not members to send them their place awards. It was felt that the award was in danger of losing credibility unless a new format was found, so we could defintely add a note next to each championship. The Younstock & adult champs replaced the BROWN TURNER ROSS awards which had 5 ridden & 5 I/H sections, & which made for incredibly long overall championships at the end of the day, so were incorporated into the Golden Supremes last year.
I do have to say that many of your points (& quite a few of my pre show queries!) could be answered/solved if only everyone would read their schedules/social media responses & emails, but I do realise that would be a perfect world LOL!

Haha! Completely agreed and I do find ncpa one of the best for sending out email notifications for those who don't use facebook (I do use facebook but only found the right ncpa page at last minute as already 'liked' the area pages but the main ncpa page didn't show easily using the temperamental fb search function)so the emails were very much appreciated,, thank you.
In all honesty, in modern times of electronic schedules and entries, a lot of people (myself included) only saw a physical copy of the schedule when received with back numbers. For a lot of people it's much easier to read a physical rather than digital copy and even when printing the digital version at home, layouts/ease of reading are often lost so people tend to just look at the section/ring relevant to them rather than read it cover to cover. Of course that isn't the fault of a show organiser and in an ideal world people would read it thoroughly but I suppose if the same questions keep being asked then it's worth considering if the answers are visible enough. This is however a general ponder that is by no means specific to ncpa as technology develops and it's use becomes more widespread.

All members were mailed a copy of the schedule as soon as it was printed, but obviously anyone only joining before entering would have only got it with the back number.
I hope everyone makes a note to join early in 2018 - that way they will more than likely recoup the cost of their membership through entry fee reductions at our shows (plus it will spread the cost of POYS)

Just a thought a couple of us had Janet - what about having a whiteboard at each ring entrance with a list of classes and a dash put through each one as it goes in? I know it is not infallible, but might help people knowing what was on in each ring?

Good idea lucynlizzysmum - will suggest it to the committee Only problem I can see is if the steward forgets to update it then people may miss their class presuming they had longer to wait. Hopefully there will be no problems with the tannoy next year, which is the most reliable way to stay informed.

I am sorry that some competitors found it cold at Warren Farm .. personally, due to the amount of blubber I carry, I did not feel cold!
Just wanted to say that in the twenty eight years I have been a regular attendee to Warren Farm, I can count on one hand the times it has rained, usually the sun is shining and, let's be honest, it was only a little on/off drizzle for part of the day last Sunday and it dried up nicely mid afternoon. One thing you can guarantee is the excellent going in the grass rings come rain or shine, they are well drained, never boggy, never rock hard as there is a nice give in the ground, we were so pleased that both our POY classes were on grass this year in lovely, large rings.
Re. timing of championships. These were listed on the back of the POY schedule and it was only a short walk to the rings/secretary's desk to see where they were up to.
Well done NCPA

I have to say, the whiteboards do work really well at toys but yes, if forgotten then I can see it being an issue.
Janet - you have indeed got me there as I was one who hadn't renewed membership until entering poys. Unfortunately losing my mare in the spring and not having transport for the first part of the season meant that I didn't get out until late on. Will definitely get on it for 2018 though!
