Hi All, I hope some one can help, my friend has a coloured mare that she is struggling to know which category to put her in for in-hand, she is only a 4year old mare. I am a trainee judge to go on a well-known panel and under my training at a HOYS coloured panel I was advised she would be a gypsy vanner category, however a panel judge told her yesterday that you very rarely see a gypsy vanner and she would class her as a native and would do better if she trimmed her mane. Is there any producers/judges on here that could advise what category they would put her in, please. Many Thanks

What height is she? I'm not a judge but would agree with Native although not sure if that category only applies to ponies under 149/153 CMS.

She is probably not feathered enough for a vanner, I would agree she looks more like a native type. She could shorten her mane a little and see how she gets on - it will always regrow.
