Hi all,
I need some advice and reassurance I think more than anything, I have rented my field for 18 years 3.8 acres always been happy there, I am currently i have sold my house due to a divorce and moving my life 40 mins away, I been offered a field of approx 1.25 acre for the 2 of them, completely panicking about giving up my paddock I have rented for so long, and whether the just over an acre will be enough. I have a 14.2 24year old gelding cob, and a 15hh Appaloosa. Mare (very very good doer)
Any help would be appreciated

If you graze 24/7 then I don't think it will be enough. To an extent it depends on the field, does it drain well? How does it do in the winter? How much shelter is there? It might be a good idea to take on this paddock and see if there is something else similar in the area to take on has well; then you can chop and change. Are you going to be able to manage to keep both of the horses after your divorce? Good luck x

It's good grazing there is a barn with hard standing area that you can sh1t off a smaller paddock then one bigger one, I have put my name down as he has other grazing but like everywhere fields are gold dust. Need to think practically can't travel everyday for 40mins during winter, but so worried about losing my security for them it's the unknown.

Sounds like you don't really have a choice as you could not travel 40 mins to and fro twice a day. Could you keep the other paddock for a few extra months? That seems to me to be the only other solution. At least there is a barn and hard standing so sounds like you could manage in bad weather. You are starting a new life so sometimes you have to jump in feet first. Will you get a contract for it to give you some more security?
