We've been keeping our ponies at livery but they are refusing to do as we ask re rugging up and feeding.
pony is off to hoys they keep leaving un rugged; keeps feeding food that is meant to be soaked for an hour dry. ponies are left with no hay from 7pm till the following dat as all they are given is one slice of hay in the evening. Friday's the stables are not skipped outbecause they are getting mucked out on the Saturday.
We're taking them off with a week's notice, my fear is the yard is owner is going to try and come after the full months livery even though they are not providing the service. Also whilst we have been there we have never been given or shown any form of contract.
I can't afford 1k livery bill on top of having to pay for livery elsewhere

when you leave and give a weeks notice advise them why, list each reason. Make certain you have photographic evidence, state that they have broken the terms of the agreement, assuming that is you had a contract in writing?? This should be more than just the amount of money and the amount of notice required. It should state exactly what services are included and what the owner can expect and what is not included. So everyone else when you change yards make certain this is all put in writing

If you haven't got a contract signed by all parties then one weeks' notice should suffice. However, if you have been verbally informed of the months' notice period this could be queried and action taken by the livery yard owner for recovery of lost income/breach of contract.
There are many interpretations of 'full' livery. Some rug/unrug, for others it's an extra charge. Rugging can cause issues if the weather is extremely hot and you have left a heavy rug to be put on the pony. Livery yard could be looking at the welfare issue that a heavy rug could cause the pony in very hot weather.
Not soaking a food that requires soaking for 1 hour before feeding is careless and could possibly cause the pony harm, therefore, the livery yard are not taking due diligence for their liveries and it could be construed as negligence. However, perhaps you could consider soaking the feed in advance e.g. soak it the night before for the morning feed? For the livery owner to soak the feed before feeding could cause upset on the yard if not all the horses are fed at the same time.
As Gill says above, give the notice in writing and make clear the reasons for you leaving, make sure you keep an exact copy of the letter.
If in doubt and you are a BHS member call the legal helpline who should be able to advise the best steps to take.
Good luck with the move.

Well I wouldn't even be considering anything if these were my ponies, nobody would be treating mine in that way and expect me to accept it. I would give a weeks notice but move them immediately. So it may cost you twice for the same week but I wouldn't leave anything in the care of the current yard, you can't trust them when you are a customer, could you trust them when you've given notice??? Get your ponies out and quick.

But, rather explore the possibilities in preparation for any recompense the livery yard owner might seek. I think this is what the poster was seeking on HG, forewarned is forearmed.

Ponies have been moved will just have to wait and see if they charge us, I've got photos of the state of the stables etc
The dry food was the biggest problem as it could have serious consequences and this was 3rd time we'd been there and found it unsoaked in his manger. The rug issue was just out right p***ing me off that they wouldn't do as they where being asked. All I was asking for was a light weight rug, Pony has to be clipped for hoys so no excessive rugging just trying to keep it flat for remaining few shows, Other ponies was trying to save coats but they refused to rug them so one resembles a woolly mammoth already. At equifest ponies had 1 rug on all day and another put on at night(trying to save coats) came home to being left with nothing on as stable manager refused to do it. Its meant to be full livery rugs stables food etc etc Monday-Friday.

Glad you've moved them. Hopefully you can sleep better at night. I doubt they will chase you for money if you've told them the facts x
