What is happening in the showing world,I do not do Facebook but my daughter does, the things she tells me about are really appalling, the measures people will go to win is sickening, why are these mean horrible people getting away with it, when caught out they should be banned from showing.

The issue with doing anything about it is evidence. Screen shots , letters anything that is hard stand up evidence heresay and griping is not relevant.

Like flee I don't 'do' facebook either but in reality is this just showing we are talking about? You hear and read about all sorts of misuse of what is I am sure also a useful communication tool. For me it is about how it is used - also some of the things I have heard are just so obviously not true but people can create all sorts of rumours and stories on face book that then get shared - taken out of context etc. I don't have children (only adult ones!) but if I did or grandchildren I think it is important to monitor what they write or respond to and also challenge some of the storeis they possibly believe. I appreciate I am probably beginning to sound like Donald Trump (God forbid!!!) re fake news but there is truth in that in all walks of life today fake news is invented, it is also so easy to write something in haste push a button and then maybe regret what has now become public. I think facebook should carry a health warning!

I also don't do FB. I know people who have been harassed through it and having been to police been told there's nothing they can do. It's bloody ridiculous that people post this stuff. I'm sure it's good for the majority who use it for it's intended purpose but it's one of the main platforms for pedophiles to groom but FB are doing not a lot to combat this.

I'm on Facebook, I have lots of horsey friends but I have no idea what you are talking about. One thing I will say is if you don't like it remove friends that behave in a bad way. Or depart from facebook

I'm on FB too, I use it to keep up with pony friends who tend to be younger than myself because that's where they are. Friends my own age are on email, or possibly HG! I haven't seen much to complain about either, but then I do unfriend people if I don't like what they are saying.

Same as gillwales I'm on Facebook and have lots of horsey showing friends. I think this season I've seen maybe one situation that should not have been on fb and completely escalated. I'm not as naive as to think it doesn't happen but I don't see it.
I must just spend too much time watching cute animal videos and tagging my friends in memes haha.

Actually thinking about it the posts I have seen that have been bullying and out of order have been horsey but not showing related. People trying to rip businesses to shreds, using fb to shame people etc etc

Im on FB and having given up showing I enjoy following my friends' showing and seeing all the results. There are some pages that give results and list ponies that have qualified so I can keep up to date with what's happening as I do miss my showing! Yes I've seen some things on there that really shouldn't be there and I have deleted some "friends" because of their comments but on the whole I enjoy it. As some people have said in the heat of the moment some people make comments and then probably regret them but they get shared and get exaggerated!

This Is not a gripe about Facebook, and I cannot come off it because I am not on it. Things that are happening go beyond belief. And its not hearsay, yes there is a lot of rubbish which is people being vindictive, I do know the differance. The type of things I am talking about has happend to a few very good friends of mine, I cannot go into it on here as it is a serious matter.

I am FBer with lots of horsey friends including those who show. I genuinely haven't seen any 'goings on' and would be really interested to know the sort of thing you are referring to, please.

If you are not on Facebook how can you know for sure that it is happening? And what is the problem? Several members have stated that they have not seen anything untoward so if your daughter is being bullied then she needs to complain to Facebook , un-friend any bullies or stop using the site .

I do Facebook and hear about "kick offs" but never see them. Even ones aimed at friends I'm always last to know and by the time my inquisitive (nosey) side goes to have a gander it's deleted or gone poofff!
Get your daughter to cull all not nice friends, if she sees a whiff of nastiness even towards others - delete that contact
Life's too short, I have very few friends on my Facebook that I don't know or haven't met but the few I don't know are horsey and I've never seen anything bad xxx
Ps. My friends list is pretty pitiful 😊

I had 50 at the time, which seemed respectable to me, and I knew them all personally, but clearly I needed to up my game!

The trouble is with Facebook is that there are three types of people who seem to make 90% of the fuss, these are:
1) those who can dish out the criticism but not take it
2) those who are quick to criticise a judge when they lose but never seem to admit to a lucky win
3) those who dismiss any negative comments (constructive or otherwise) as jealousy
These people attract trouble then cry the victim or turn quite nasty
Most of the rest seem pretty normal!

LOL - absolutely agree with Toaster! I am on FB and find it an extremely useful tool to keep in touch with my friends and family all over the world, my showing friends and all their successes (never post the bad stuff LOL) and buying and selling stuff. If you keep on top of your 'friends' on there an delete all idiots and bigots swiftly as they show their true colours and take everything you read with a pinch of salt then happiness reigns!!
OP, no idea what you are talking about as you have given no detail. If you are not going to give detail then we really cannot comment or help. Obviously you cannot name names but some kind of idea what the subject is might help. I suggest you tell your daughter to unfriend the idiots and bigots swiftly and then they won't receive anything to worry you both.
IMO the showing world is a very friendly place. I attended BSPS 17 this weekend and met up with some lovely friends (that I only see at Onley!) and met a couple of lovely new families. We exchanged advice, held ponies for each other and I even got loaned an arm band for restricted to save me walking back to the lorry in the rain. As for cruelty - we all see it and if you see it report it to the relevant authorities. I watched a very high level show jumper rapping a horse in the collecting ring of Olympia back in the 80s and I expect it still goes on but not in such a public place. I saw a young lad beating the xxx out of his mount at the NPS winter champs a few years back and went straight to the nearest ring steward and voiced my objections. OP, if you think there is a real issue then report it, don't come on here and give half a story that we have no hope of being able to act on and then just say 'leave it'!
